My Laptop needs repair, I am in Patong beach.

Featured Replies

My laptop is not working at all,can not even start it.I was able to surf the web, a week ago, and suddenly it turned off ,could re-start but it happened again many times. Now all I get is a black screen.

I do not know if is a virus,a software or hardware problem.

Does anyone know where I can take it, here in Patong ???

Many thanks for help and advice.

Not in Patong. Best place basement of Big C on the bypass road - Amorn ... opposite end from the food court. I highly recommend from many times personal experience

Thanks LivinginKata , I will go there.Do you know the shop`s name or a reference for the shop.I understood that is at the basement opposite side to food court. Thanks again

Do your self a favour....windows just loves any crap attached to it...buy your self an iPad if ur doing basics, i dout you need your lap top for anything more than surfing the web browsing stuff like that..........5 ys later not a bugg on iPad...2 windows laptops? cost me more to keep them going thats servicing 2 cars in the same period.

^^Really depends on the product. I have an HP Pavilion running strong for over 10 years. However, I will agree about doing basics. Many folks don't need a computer for the simple tasks they are doing.

I gave the shop name in my post - Amorn

The repir area is to the extreme right side of the shop. - expect a few day for repair to be completed.

Computer shop opposite the big school on Phrabaramee Road (North road of Patong), next to Family Mart called PRM used to be good when I lived in Patong. They would also do house visits. Don't think I am allowed to post a link but you can google them.

I run both and with good antivirus,I use paid Avast Internet Security no problems whatsoever with either.Problem with my iPad 2 is it doesn't run Adobe Flash so forget watching 50% of videos ever posted or more.
That is changing however as Flash is very insecure, hence why iOS doesn't support it!

I know a laptop repairer specialist in Chalong. PM me for phone number.

What brand is it? Most brands have factory stores here. They know me on a first name basis at the Acer shop. That's why I'll never buy another. whistling.gif

And all Acers come with a one year prepaid insurance. I discovered this when I cracked the notebook screen (closing the car boot sad.png ). I expected a big bill but Acer counter service asked me when I bought it, showed them the bill, under one year, they gave me an insurance claim, had the laptop back a few days later. Bill was over 6,000 baht, paid by insurance.

I guess that's why I always buy Acers.

For you and me the little computer shop down the soi opposite the Mosque in Bang Tao is probably the best option- my small (Samsung) computer is in there at the moment.

do yourself a favor, and check if the fan is running.

There is a small grill on the bottom or side.

Sounds like it is overheating...if it shut off by itself.

Anyways, it is worth it to peek through the grill.

Might just need to be cleaned....at the shop, of course.

I don't recommend this, but I used a small wooden toothpick and was able to get my fan unstuck.

still had to have it cleaned.

Secondly....possible power supply failure.

If it turns on at all, try keeping it near a fan, or aircon stream.

If it has power, and the fan is spinning, then possibly you could boot off a usb with any number of Rescue programs/or linux.

...................

^^ good advices.

If the laptop is old and don't have much value anymore, then one option is to open the laptop covers by yourself and try to blow out all the accumulated dust inside and from the fan.

I used to have a old Lenovo laptop, with a temperamental fan. The bios refused to boot showing 'fan error' every now and then. In those cases I used vacuum cleaner to spin the fan and get the laptop to boot :)

One more thing to do / test. Do you hear any 'beebs' or other sounds when you try to start the laptop? If you hear beebs, then count the long-short-short .. etc. Those sounds have a meaning as the computer tries to tell, what is wrong. You can then check the manual, what is likely broken on your laptop. This as an example https://support.lenovo.com/ca/en/documents/migr-46018-kr
