Rice farmers are warned of pledging their unmilled rice

The Buriram provincial authority has warned rice farmers of pawning their unmilled rice at certain rice mills and markets.

Mr. Mongkhol Surasatcha, the Deputy Governor of Buriram, disclosed that many groups of people and mill operators have pledged their unmilled rice at various rice mills and markets. The negotiated prices are higher than the normal prices at 500 to 800 baht per ton, and as a result, many farmers have decided to join this pawn scheme.

In order to prevent the farmers from being misled or taken advantage of, the provincial authority has warned them to pledge their unmilled rice at rice mills or markets with an official public relation sign to show that they are legitimate.

Farmers can call the provincial internal trade office at 1569 if they see any illegitimate or corruption activities.

Wrongdoers can face a maximum of five years of imprisonment or pay a fine of 10,000 baht or both.
