Dependant Children - Confused....

Featured Replies

Hello

I have just started reading and filling in the Sponsorship for a Partner Visa application forms and I'm confused as to dependant children.

My wife has a child (yoya 6 years old) from a previous relationship and we have a baby togther.

Yoya has lived with us for 6mths in BKK. Prior to this she lived with the grandparents in Isaan and we sent her $$ every month.

Is Yoya considered to be my dependant or my wifes or both?

On the form (electronic) it has the question:

All your children (including from previous marriages/relationships, or deceased) now if I click on the ? mark:

"What is required?

Please add the names and details of all of your children dependent or otherwise. You should include step and adoptive children that you have acquired as a result of marrying a person who also has children. "

Does Yoya qualify as my child from this description? I guess that depends on your definition of step children. ???

Also the next question

"All your other dependants (including any dependent children of a dependant, or deceased)"

(Please add the names and details of any other person who is dependent on you. A dependant is a person who is, and has been for a substantial period of time, wholly or substantially reliant on you for their financial support to meet their basic needs for food, clothing and shelter. This reliance upon you must be greater than upon any one else. )

Now going off the dependants I read this to me that Yoya and our baby are both dependant on me and their mum...

So do I list them both in

All your children (including from previous marriages/relationships, or deceased)

and in

All your other dependants (including any dependent children of a dependant, or deceased)

as well as having them as children and dependants on my wifes form?

Is it better to have Yoya only on my wifes?

Im confused. Thanks for any help.

Yes.

I'd stick her on your form.

Hello,

IMHO

Yoya is your step daughter(?) and I believe this applies for de-facto and spouse relationships. I'm not sure about fiancée relationships.

Other dependants, I believe, refers to children of your children or step children making them your grandchildren or step-grand kids(?).

So I'd put Yoya and your biological child under section "(a) all your children" only.

Hope that helps.

James.

Might be helpful to know what country you are trying to get your wife and step child into. Though it appears other posters seem to know....
