The Bisto gravy granules ,in tubs are a lot cheaper, and is

what i use.

regards worgeordie

Strange economics.

The gravy powder makes litres more gravy than the tub of granules.

I have to confess though that I love the Bisto cheese sauce granules but can't find them in Bangkok.

The Tops requirement for free home delivery at present is at least 888 baht net order, after any discounts/coupons.

The larger, related Central Food Halls (CentralWorld, Central Chidlom, Thong Lor, etc.) sometimes have the same promotions and sometimes have different, separate ones. But they have a higher requirement for free home delivery, being 1,500 baht per order.

Tesco has a flat 60 baht charge for home delivery, regardless of how small or large the order is.

I enquired at Emquartier about home delivery ----- they sent me an email stating that they have free home delivery from their Gourmet supermarket on orders over 10,000 Baht.

By the way, has anyone tried the Japanese watermelon at Emquartier at the bargain price of 9,999 Baht. Probably kept it under 10k to avoid the free delivery!

I buy the packet gravy, similar to the knor packets. About 27 baht. Just add hot water. Its very tasty.

The plus point for me with Bisto Original powder and granules is that it is veggie, but that would be a turn off for others.

(I know they make a vegetarian granules but I'm referring to the version pictured by the O.P.).

Mont Clare red wine----also cheaper at villa ----not a lot 50 baht-Box, just surprised as you see all the mum & pop stores lining up at Makro to restock their shelves in whatever Moo Barn.

Makro actually has two sizes of boxes -- the usual 5-liter one at 999, which works out to 200 a liter, but also an 8-liter one for 1199 and apparently exclusive to Makro, which takes it down to 150 a liter. But I haven't had Mont Claire in ages, although I don't remember it being too bad.

Better read the label on the Mont Clair - from memory it says "Fruit juice wine" which means it is not "wine" as the rest of the world knows it.

But if you like it what difference does it make, I suppose.

I, too, was shocked at some comparisons I made between Villa and Promphan.

One can of tomato pulp. 66 Bt at both.

One can of Kepplers Cider. 124 Bt at Promphan, 116 Bt at Villa.

I always thought Promphan was cheap.

Check the "Stuff for Sale Pattaya" web site. There are a couple of guys selling Brit and other products much cheaper. Simon Swimpex is one. Have had excellent results with cheese and Swedish beer. Highly recommend. Recently offered Bisto but I forgot the price.

I knew somebody would eventually have to say something like that. This forum is sooooo predictable LMAO. Go find one of the many "what's real wine" threads here that talks about that very thing. This thread is about price comparisons between Makro and Villa.

I believe, though it always gets confusing, that the supermarket at EmQuartier is the same variety as at Siam Paragon and Emporium, which is The Mall Group

Whereas the Central and Tops supermarkets are under the Central conglomerate, which isn't involved in EmQuartier, but rather, developments that often begin with Central XXXXXX like CentralWorld and Central Chidlom, as I mentioned above.

Different conglomerate. Different policies.

While in Europe one can go shop at Metro / Aldi / Lidl and comparable discounters trusting that their prices will be the lowest or nearly, in Thailand every item price has to be checked and compared with prices at other stores.

Shopping is still an adventure here, sometimes 5x 200g packs might be significantly cheaper than the 1Kg jumbo pack in the same shop. Similarly to what the OP describes I have also seen supposedly hi-so shops sell some products significantly cheaper than the discounters... go figure.

I'd like to, but can you help me to find this page?

Yes sometimes strange pricing here. I buy often from the Black Swan brand what they call Caviar Tarama, Price at Villa 156, price at Central food hall 225 for the identical item.
