Immigration has become much more strict recently due to the slogan which you mentioned. However, it's an extreme thing which you mentioned that they didn't accept your 90 day reporting. Maybe your wife met a moody officer at a wrong time. Maybe she should try another day with another office who'll be more understanding.

It is just one person in the immigration department out of many thousands and it can happen in any country. I experienced, a far worse one in both Australia and Singapore when I applied for a visa. On the whole the immigration Department in Thailand is far less demanding than in other countries and it must be one of the easiest places in the world to get Visa to live here. It seems that most people who complain about the immigration Department have never been to any other country.

I always send my "help" to do my 90 day report and she never had any problems.

I have been doing my 90 Day Reports in Khon Kaen by "agents" for several years now and never a problem or complication. And by "agent," I don't mean a commercial service. I send an assistant to take care of it, never a wife or relative or anyone significant.

This is the first time that i hear that the 90 day reporting is refused.

As said before there is no change in the regulations and 90 day reporting can be done by other people.

Looks like you where very unlucky as both immigration offices (Patong and Phuket) do not have any problems with 90 day reporting by others.

Maybe (i just playing devils advocate) where the copies not signed! But even that should not be a big problem.

Or the officer had a fight with his missus that morning.tongue.png

I have an update on my situation.

Firstly, the reason I initially posted in the Phuket forum is because the local Office(s) have their own unique procedures that seem to vary from time to time. They appear to blame loss of perceived entitlement on the client, and make life difficult for them for a while. It has happened before. I believe it to be the case now. These difficulties probably won't apply elsewhere.

So, my wife went by bike to the main office this morning. She preferred to try it this way first as she is nervous about driving the car in heavy traffic (not as nervous as her front seat passenger!). She only started driving recently after I was forced to stop, so does fairly well considering. This is one reason I don't go to Immigration if it can be avoided.

She was served by a farang volunteer who refused to accept my clear, computer typed two page Personal Information form, sourced from Pattaya I think. Instead she was handed a 1 page Phuket version of the same thing. It was faded, barely readable and the spaces tiny. It was printed on the back of another document that seemed to be a list of bank account numbers.

He was also unhappy that I hadn't named my deceased parents. My father died nearly fifty years ago, he had the same name as me. My mother died about ten years ago and I'm unsure if they want her maiden name, her first married name or the second. Perhaps I should direct them to the cemetery rose garden where her ashes were spread.

He also needed an Australian contact even though I have no living relatives there. I gave an old mate's address as best as I can remember it. I didn't fill in the space for the name of his village headman because I'm not sure he has one!

On the plus side he wrote "no" across the space for a photo so presumably this is not a requirement.

My wife has returned to the office with the completed local form, it remains to be seen if they will process the simple report this time or continue the idiocy. (That might depend on whether they are reading this thread or not!) So far three trips for a procedure that can be done using a copy of the details page of a passport only.

I should add that the volunteer said they will accept the completed form without my presence being necessary.

After about forty years as a public servant I'm very good at filling in forms, although my twisted, fumbling fingers have trouble holding a pen these days. They would have been better off sticking to the neatly typed form I initially prepared.

You can't mail it in. I tried. Absolutely no response. I sent it EMS with a stamped, self-addressed envelope.

I was wondering how that went, so not an option for next time.

My wife has just returned from her third visit, and now we don't have to worry about it again until 26 October.

She made the trip very fast alone on her bike as opposed to the car, and the office was practically empty, so no waiting.

Thanks to all for your input and the suggestions on how to proceed. As previously stated I don't want to stir the pot too much and trigger possible future problems with the Department (maybe too late!)

A case of I'm-a-big-man lone officer standing their ground? Can you not go through the agent method in Phuket, such as the likes of Assist in Chiang Mai where you pay for them to take care of the extension and all reports?

It seems they want people to use agents where a commission can be part of the deal..

However, for a simple report, it is ludicrous to pay thousands for someone to carry a form into an office.

Ludicrous yes profitable YES!! Yes I live in Agentville, Thailand.

I am also disabled and my wife has reported at Patong for me for about 7 years.

The only time I've gone in person was for a re-entry permit - after waiting 1.5 hours they told me my niece could do it for me.!

They used to just accept a passport only as all the info was in the computer database (it still is!)

Complain higher up (out of the Province) - there is a Complaints number for Aliens.

Having to use a paid "agent" for a simple function is ludicrous.

If they accept it from another person (agent) then they have to accept it from another person (your wife).

Arm her with the appropriate gazetted Police Order and send her back!

Ask for the Boss.

When you ask for the Boss they may just trot out the same guy that said no. Wrong or right they will close ranks on you.

Oh the irony!

A friend's 90 day report is due in a week or so and I put it into the online system for him.

It went through without a problem. He wont have to visit the office nor complete their silly form!

To solve your problem Old Croc you may need to take a quick flight to KL or Singapore with wheelchair service.

You'll go straight through Immigration there in the V.I.P. lane and re-enter the Kingdom with a new landing card and into the computer database.

Then you can report online.

Though I doubt if they'll reject your wife twice.

What version of IE are you using?

I heard that any version newer than 8 wouldn't work.

Have no idea if that is true.

Windows 10's Edge doesn't work, but it has an app for IE that can be used.

Look in the list under Windows Accessories.

Believe me, I've thought about popping out to Singapore or another nearby port, but right now the thought of dealing with several airports, and their associated hurdles, sounds worse than going to Immigration every three months.

I've just done Perth via Singapore with wheelchair service - seamless (return on my own).

Treat the wife to a bit of duty-free shopping - no doubt she deserves it!

I just paid 400 baht to an agent in Pattaya for 90 day report and only passport needed. No extra forms. Money well spent.

Agent must be laughing all the way to the bank, a days wages for handing over a form!

Even more so as no form is even required at Jomtien.

For anyone who is unaware of just how easy and quick it is to do your 90-day reporting yourself at Jomtien, let me explain.

You take your passport containing the slip from the last time you did your 90-day reporting. You present the passport and slip. They scan the slip and print out a new form. They attach a new slip to your passport, removing the old one. You leave. You do not need to present any documents of any type apart from your passport. No photocopies required.

Most people find this takes well under 10 minutes as queues for this service are generally very short. Many people are in and out within just a couple of minutes.

The only time that you need to present copies and supporting documents is for your first 90-day reporting; having done it once they are not needed again, unless perhaps your address changes.

Most places don't require a 90 day application form, Only the passport.

But just wait, you will also get the extra forms.

The information form is to be rolled out nation wide unfortunately.

This is until it dies a quite dead off-course.

But presumably if you have travelled to foreign parts since your last 90-day report you need to present all the documentation with the first report due after your return to LOS?

No. I just show the old slip. YMMV.

My comments were directed at those who might be tempted to pay an agent to submit their 90-day report at Jomtien. I think this is a waste of money and I was trying to show how quick and easy it is to do it yourself, especially once you have the slip from a previous report. The completed 90-day application form is printed out automatically when you have the slip.

The personal information form is already being asked for at Jomtien (albeit somewhat irregularly) but as it is a one-off (just like the requirement for photocopies and proof of address) it does not seem to be relevant to my comments.
