Gmail Account hacked?

Featured Replies

Today i got a email from google which says that Google had blocked an access to my account from a unknown device. The ip address and location is logged. It's chonburi City. I stay in Jomtien.

After that i changed my gmail password. When i got the email, my phone logged in to a known wifi hotspot but got disconnected immediately.  Could have this triggered a false alarm, or was my account really hacked?

Apart from the change of the gmail password, should i do something else?

As additional information: I have no contacts within Thailand were i use my email address. I use it only for my European and US contacts. So, it's somehow strange that the location of he device was in Chonburi. I wanted to check my mail at this time and realized, that i was connected to a wifi hotspot. But the signal was too weak. Maybe the attempt to login to my account has failed and triggered this alert. Could this makes sense?

I read some other posts from people who got the same email. Most of them, got attacked from Russia. Some of them figured out that their account got abused to send spam mails. So, why is it Chonburi?

No comment on whether some rascality took place, but sometimes your internet provider may have you connected to servers that are some miles away from where you are.  There are several ways to find out where your present IP location is, you can use websites, programs or browser plug-ins.  I use this one http://www.tcpiputils.com/browser-extensions-addons-accelerators

You may be in Jomtien, but your IP location could be shown as Rayong, for example.

Don't forget to change your password recovery info as well.

Better to be safe than sorry.

So, why is it Chonburi?

Agree with bendejo's assessment, or

It could be something as simple as logging in using a new device, or one which may have just been updated.

Obviously change the password.

I use Google 2-step verification and Authenticator.
