on the toyota thailand website they list:

standard cab

xtra cab 4x2 and 4x4

prerunner

doublecab 4x2 and 4x4

i'm wondering what the difference between the 'prerunner' (which according to the photos looks like comes in a double cab) and the doublecab?

anyone figure this out?

Here's what I found when I compared the 2007 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner V6 4 dr. Double Cab (4.0 L 6 cyl) to the 2007 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab 4WD SB V6 (4.0 L 6 cyl).

Skid plate is optional on the Double Cab, standard on the PreRunner

Acceleration (0-60mph) 8.8 seconds for the PreRunner, 9.6 seconds for the Double Cab

Braking Distance (60-0mph) 121 ft. for the PreRunner, 125 ft. for the Double Cab

Max Load Capacity is 1505 lbs for the PreRunner, 1370 lbs for the Double Cab

Mileage 18 mpg city 22 mpg highway for the PreRunner and 17 mpg city 21 mpg for the Double Cab

Weight 3845 lbs for the PreRunner 4080 lbs for the Double Cab

Ground Clearance 9.5 inches for the PreRunner and 9.4 inches for the Double Cab

All the features look identical, the main difference is that the PreRunner is rear wheel drive. You can't get the Double Cab without the 4 wheel drive option.

Hope that helps. I got this off of the US Toyota website and did a comparison of the two through Edmonds. This should hold true for over there.

double cab trucks have 4 doors and are full 4/5 seaters.

extra cabs are 2 door and have restricted space in the back , you can put a bench seat in the back , but there is hardly any legroom.

2wd is two wheel drive , the rear wheels take the power from the engine.

4wd is 4 wheel drive , all 4 wheels can be powered , or just the rear two , the driver can choose thanks to a lever on the transmission tunnel.

the pre runner has the raised suspension, bigger wheel arches and wheels and the other cosmetic additions of the 4wd model , but is in fact a 2wd.

i think the prerunner only comes as a 4 door double cab , but i may be wrong.

A pre-runner doesn't refer to cab size; it is 2WD but raised in the same way the 4wd models are...so you get ground clearance and extra vision?

Most pickup cabs are 2dr with 2 seats, 2dr with a little bench behind,or 4dr with seating for 4 or 5.

Engines are usually 2.5 or 3.0 litre diesel with the option of turbo or turbo intercooler.
