Best farang food in Chiang Rai?

Featured Replies

Looking for restaurant suggestions please

I had this for breakfast at Chivit Thamma Da this morning.  Definitely one of my favorites.

I would metaphorically kill for an eggs Benedict that looks that good, I can't even get close to that anywhere in Chiang Mai.

Butter is better and Giotto, have decent eggs Benedict. But doesn't come close to picture

Smoothie Blues on Nimman also has a nice benedict.

I don't know many of the restaurants in CR, typically we it in the hotel where we're staying although having discovered Chivit Thamma Da on our most recent visit, that will change next time around. But of the hotels we've stayed in, Le Meridien has very good food, their dinner buffet is first rate and their breakfasts are very good. We rate Dusit Island's restaurant as OK/Good, their omelette encased Pad Thai is very good and their service never ends (see below). Food at the The Legend is just OK.

During our second to last stay at Dusit Island MRS CM found a dead fly mixed in amongst the ground pork in her meal so we called the waiter to get the meal replaced. The waiter called the restaurant manager who in turn called the chef, what followed was a half hour of grovelling but sincere apologies - meals were replaced, bills were cancelled and when we returned to the room a huge tray of fruit was sat on the table. Next morning at breakfast was pretty much a replay of the apologies from the night before and the whole thing was starting to get a bit old by then. As we checked out the receptionist summoned the GM who also apologised to us and hoped the incident didn't spoil our stay and that we'd come back again - we did, with service like that, who wouldn't.

Chivit Thamma Da is a class act.

"Farang food" covers a wide range of cuisine, the pizzas at Singha Park Barn House Pizzeria are very good, the Tapas at Casa de Tapas are reputed to be back to the standard of a few years back and the Condotel now has a Maltese food cafe that I've yet to try.

Melt in your Mouth offers tasty farang options  (if you can find it), Da Vinci's gets neglected here but there is nothing wrong with their their food and a new Italian place across the road from it has been recommended.

The Sunday Brunch at Le Meridien has a selection of foreign dishes on offer.

Over all we're pretty lucky.

The stand alone Italian restaurant at Meridien is also quite good. And very reasonable. I was disappointed at last visit to the buffet.
