Isn't this where some foreigners come to hide?

Yes, hide from a life thousands of miles away, not stir up trouble in your neighborhood.  You are practically begging to get caught.  If the tryst is based on a one off financial transaction, you may get away with it.  Otherwise, you are just begging to get caught.  Have you not heard the old saying; "Do not sh*t where you eat"?  You are talking about doing exactly that.

Happens all the time in my village, it's just that it's not a secret, it's 'Peyton place' here. The thing is they have their own rules regarding discretion, everybody knows but nobody speaks about it to the wives or husbands who also know. A couple i know are quite OK with the fact that the husband has a mia noi in the village, that is until one day the mia noi turned up at the shop they run to buy something, that was a breach of etiquette, the wife ran to the back of the shop and got her husbands gun and threatened to shoot her, end of the affair.

Agree, if you were a Thai it's not a big deal but for a foreigner it's a no no, big loss of face for the husband, nobody would laugh this off, you would end up seriously dead. There is no way you could keep this secret

And if you do have to pooh on one's doorstep, be careful you don't slip in it.

I moved to a small country town back home for convalescent reasons......It wasn't long before I nicknamed it....."The valley of the squinting windows" .....About that time I came to Thailand for my first time. Seen the difference....flew home....sold my house ....been here ever since.

Fact - one person i know spoke to a girl outside the local Central Plaza. His wife knew about it before he got home. Every relative, friend and acquaintance of your wife is also her spy .......

Fact:  My wife once said to me, "I have a thousand eyes".  Roger that, over & out.

Could it be done? No way leave the house everybody sees you.

They want to know where you are going, what you are doing.

Nothing can be kept secret from nosy villagers.

I live in pakkred close to bangkok but ny neighbors like to look at my plastic bags to know what I bought from 7/11. Thais are so curious. They know everything . Do you ever wonder why RTP makes quick arrests because Thai people can keep secrets.

Amen! I used to live in the sticks for almost 5 years. As the only Farang for many miles around, one is under constant surveillance.

But understandable. Not much happening in the village. Next to TV Soap Operas, the only other form of entertainment is gossip.

Still possible to have an affair, but it's "risky business" for various reasons. Not recommendable!

Cheers.

if they dont see it they make it  up also, <deleted> got  nothing better to do all day......source "experience of living near  village for 4  years"

I worked in a hospital many years ago. As I was walking outside my office someone mentioned to me that a colleague was pregnant. About five minutes later as I was walking back into my office I met the colleague and congratulated her.  As her jaw dropped to the floor she said in amazement "but I only discovered myself five minutes ago"

Had to give a document to Head-of-Village in a small Isaan village. Went there in the evening with my girlfriend, an old wrinkled lady opened the door in Head-of-Village's house.

»Head-of-Village is not home,« my girlfriend said, »he sleep with mia noy..!«
»Who is that old lady,« I asked..?

»Head-of-Village's wife..!«
