Is it possible just to roll up to the embassies on the day and obtain it there and then, or do you have to leave your passport with them and collect a couple of days later?

The vis aapp's will be for a Brit & a Thai.

I don't know much about this, but as no-one else has answered you yet....

Brit and Thai can both get visa-on-arrival in Laos (1500bt for the Brit, a lot less for the Thai).

Brit can get VOA in Cambodia (US$80 ?), don't know about Thai....

I don't know about Cambodia but the Lao embassy will issue you a visa in an hour or so. Get to the embassy before 10:30 and have your visa by noon! After 10:30, you may be asked to come back after lunch.

Thanks guys. I can't get a Laos visa on arrival as I'm coming via Chong Mek and will be in Laos for longer than 3 days.

Is a Thai allowed to travel through Laos by obtaining a visa at Chong Mek? I was under the impression that it was just a sort of permit for a day or two to do some "shopping" at the markets.

Can anyone provide any info on obtaining Cambodian visa in BKK. Can you obtain it the same day?

You can go to the Cambodian embassy in the morning to apply and then you can pick it up the same day in afternoon time.

Is there anything nearby to do while I'm waiting or is it way out of the way? Don't suppose it's near the Laos embassy that would probably be asking for too much!!
