Nai Lert Park hotel to close down early next year

 

 

BANGKOK: -- Curtain to fall on the Nai Lert Park hotel early next year after 36 years in service when the Sombatsiri family has agreed to sell the hotel to Bangkok Dusit Medical Services, Thailand’s largest hospital operator, at a price tag of 10,800 million baht.

 

BDMS filed a statement to the Stock Exchange of Thailand on Wednesday night saying that the company had entered into a deal to acquire the 15-rai prime land which includes a six-storey hotel, a 12-storey promenade office building and one-storey building used for a staff cafeteria.

 

The company said it planned two billion baht to develop the property into a wellness clinic said to be the first in Asia to provide wellness services.

 

Managing director of Nai Lert Park hotel, Naphaporn Bodiratmangkura, issued a note to employees informing them about the necessity to close down the hotel. She promised that the employees would receive the legal compensation plus a one-month bonus.

What a shame. Most popular BKK hotel among my family and friends.

About the same as Pattaya. 

 

Scary isn't it. 

Another piece of Bangkok history and a nice open space (the hotel has extensive grounds) is lost. This reminds me of the loss of the stunning old Siam Intercontinental Hotel, and its extensive grounds and gardens, to build the Siam Paragon Mall. As they say they will develop a "wellness center," hopefully they will find a way to incorporate the gardens into their plans. 

 

PS: The annual flower show and festival put on by this hotel was quite an event as well. The location of this hotel, because of the road traffic patterns, general,congestion, and the lack of nearby BTS/MRT lines wasn't ideal, however.

I remember when the place opened.  Am I really that old?

Yes, originally the Hilton. 

The fact is, nobody wanted to stay there any more after David Carradine topped himself with ropes around his neck and c**k in the closet. The rumour on the street is that the place was haunted by his tormented spirit. Nice buffet dinner though.

1.8 million per square wah. That's about right really considering the British Embassy wants 1.9 million and is closer to Sukhumvit.

Surely The Ambassador on Soi 11 will be next to go: once considered smart  ( like the Dusit Thani, and the original Sheraton on Surawong, later a Ramada, and also that place on Surawong near Rama4, I forget its name)...now all cheap dinosaurs sitting on expensive land. None of them is a going concern in the current hotel market.

so logically they will be preserving and even improving the Dildo shrine in the back garden.......

Does anyone else find it strange that these fertility shrines you see throughout Thailand never have any vaginas? It must be due to the poor state of sex-education in Thai schools.
