PHUKET:-- Health officials have promised to investigate the large volume of dirty water spewing out from a drainpipe directly onto Surin Beach, on to Phuket’s west coast, and turning water along the popular tourist beachfront brown.

“We did not know about this, but we will investigate it,” Salil Manabutr of the Public Health and Environment Office at the Cherng Talay Tambon Administration Organisation (OrBorTor) told The Phuket News today (Oct 3).

The offensive water pouring onto the beach was brought to Ms Salil’s attention by The Phuket News after a video of the “fountain of brown” was sent in by a Phuket News reader, who noted that the discharge was pouring out from the back of a hotel by the beachfront.

“The truth is that at Surin Beach there are some businesses that discharge wastewater without any permit from the government confirming that the businesses adhere to environmental wastewater-treatment standards,” Ms Salil said.

“Many officials in Cherng Talay know about this and are doing there best to fix the problem,” she said.

Don't worry. That's only human excrement and other stuff you don't want in your noodle soup. . :shock1:

P.S. I can only imagine the bad smell. Need to throw up now, sorry..bye bye.....

Seems this has been going on for quite some time and the "foul and unsightly untreated sewage" is being moved about the place to tanks and then finally ends up on the beach.

“We did not know about this, but we will investigate it” ( Salil Manabutr, Public Health and Environment Office at the Cherng Talay Tambon Administration Organisation) says while in the next breath  she says “many officials in Cherng Talay know about this and are doing there best to fix the problem”.

Which statement is the truth I wonder. Or putting it another way which one is the lie or does the truth lay somewhere in between..

No need for panic, the Junta moved the deck chairs.

I dont believe this is sewerage.

Inland , and across the other side of the road  from the hotel is a catchment area for storm water that runs down the hill and banks up against the road. The road has formed an accidental dam , and a culvert to remove that water ( to the sea )  was put in years ago. Its there for all passing traffic to see. The water is diverted under the road and the hotel ( and was there before the hotel was built The local authorities know of it , and Ive seen government workers ( or some sort of workers ) clear it and its surrounds out last dry season. There was a rich deposit of  red alluvial soil they were actually harvesting and bagging there then.

IMO the real problem is the amount of silt in the water.

This indicates land clearance up in the jungle and hills behind , without , of course , any attempts at erosion control.

I love Surin and am a regular visitor .

The hotel in question clearly contravenes setback and height laws .

But sheer logic would tell us that no hotel would have holding tanks capable of pumping at the volume that is coming out , for so many days on end.

looks like you are the right person for the job, Ms. Salil.

Plug the pipe and see where it backs up. Easy just shove a football innertube in there and give it some compressed air. We know that will never happen because if it comes up in some elites bathroom  they will be in sh*t

double speak for 'we dont know anything about this so we have not fixed it' and 'we are in the process of fixing the problem' should pacify the upset till the storm water stops overflowing the septic tanks or what ever is causing the problem.

A nice shitty job to get the new governor rolling on his first day at work.
