CHIANG MAI:-- A hotel in Chiang Mai has been raided three times for operating without a license but is still operating as if nothing had happened.

The owner is known as "Sia Tan" a big name in the Green Tea business.

Police, soldiers and local officials went to the Eastin Tan Hotel on Huay Kaew Road for the third time on Friday and found tourists coming and going as normal.

Visits by police earlier in the moth had ascertained that owner Tan Phasakornnathee or Sia Tan was operating illegally without a license.

Yesterday his manager was taken into the local police station where cops said the matter was now in the hands of the court.

The hotel is still advertised online describing itself as "cosy and good for kids". Reviews are mixed.

Unlicensed probably means in addition uninsured, as licensing is probably a condition of the policy as it is with vehicles, also uninspected as it will not be included in the inspection lists of health, fire, hygiene etc agencies. But he's just following the vast majority of hotels in Chiang Mai and probably the rest of Thailand that don't bother with details like licenses and safety for their customers and staff.

He just forgot the 5000bht per month Insurance Money I have a FREIND here he said last week they wanted 5000 Bht per month he refused to pay he out on a 20000 Bht bail his lawyer called to inform that he should get back the 20000 Bht so far nothing they had him closed for 3 days and now he waiting for hearing date in court. Can you imagine all the businesses here paying that each month in CM go figure TIT

If they are serious about closing it they should seal it off and lock up the owner until the court case comes up.   Too sensible for this country of course !

Eastin Tan seems to get very good reviews on Trip Advisor, Agoda and Booking.com, and all others I could see....I would not call that mixed reviews.....

The Easton Tan hotel's corporate office in Singapore. It's part of a larger corporate group of companies.

Regardless of Mr. Sia Tan, ignoring the business tax and being wealthy, the issue will be resolved in the court.

Mods please close this thread

Why?

Future bookings are still being accepted overseas via the Internet with the major accommodation websites.

It is ranked fairly well in the 4* hotel reviews and was in the consideration list for our next stay.

Ultimately, location provided its scratching.

Forums such as this sometimes give you further dynamics (not to be confused with defamation) for consideration that are not readily available through the standard marketing mediums.

It's amazing how many laws officialdom enforce then there's those they can't or won't.

What would be happening if it was a hotel operated by someone who isn't rich and connected ?

His a Thai business man and  he knows the drill. The police came with some pressed uniforms talking licences and Rubbish talk. The truth is they want Baht. He flicked them off like a dirty rag. His lawyer will handle the judge another pay day for the courts.
