LAMPHUN: -- A monk high on Ya Ba caught racing across the north last night was apprehended in his orange robes at a checkpoint.

A check of his monk's satchel found further orange evidence. Cops found four Ya Ba amphetamines of that same colour.

So the police gave him a urine test - not surprisingly that was not orange. The test revealed the tell-tale purple colour indicating he had taken drugs, reports Manager Online.

Ban Wiang Nong Long police in Lamphun arrested Phra Chainarong Srithanon, 28, at a checkpoint in the middle of the night. He was driving a Toyota Freerunner pick-up at speed.

Chainarong admitted taking drugs and said he was on his way to see a mate in Ban Hong. He said he was a monk attached to the temple of Wat Khamnet Jorm Thong in Chiang Mai.

But he is a monk no more. Following the purple result he was immediately taken for defrocking at Wat Rong Than nearby and then detained by police for prosecution.

Can't beat a good "defrocking".

Just another 1 in a long line of monks misbehaving.

A lot depends a lot on who is being defrocked. I doubt I would get much delight from seeing a monk defrocked. On the other hand....

Commiting an offence is a pre-requirement to entering the monkhood.

orange and purple, no sense of colour matching, he ought to be prosecuted for bad taste as well.

I noticed that in their eyes. I give the cops 10 out-of 10 for following procedure and not making any exceptions for him.

Job well done lads!
