speed cameras

Featured Replies

Folks,

I was wondering, what's the current state of speed cams around the island, esp. along Thepkasattri? What's the actual speed limit and can someone provide exact location pin? I drive towards Sarasin every day and still fail to notice where the cam is...

They've been a huge success, they've caught 14 speeders - two of whom paid fines.

They had radar by the Muang Chao Fa road behind Honda, a couple of weeks ago.

On the bypass road the signs say 50KPH , a senior police officer has stated the speed limit there is 90KPH and the speed cameras are set at 100KPH

Its the transport authorities job to collect the fines which they have refused to do

Correct speed limit is 90kph.

Cameras set at 120kmh.

But with the traffic these days it is nearly impossible drive faster then 90kmh. Up till Sarasin one long traffic jam from 07am-8pm. Horrible....

A police speed radar check point or speed camera ?

So long as you are following the speed limits it doesn't really matter where the cameras are does it?

That's very interesting ... never seen that in Phuket. About 18 years ago I encountered a hand held radar on my way back from a visa run to Hat Yai in Pangna provence. Paid a 500 baht spot  fine ... with receipt.

Wonder if they are laser or radar? Time to order some dashboard boxes from China.

Pretty sure it's just radar hand held or set up on a tripod next to the police car.

I spotted that as well. Didn't look like they were doing much, maybe they'd forgotten the instruction manual.

So I should slow down to 30km/h before every curve? The speed limits on this island are a total joke...

I think someone ordered to many 50KPH signs, they turn up all over Phuket at the same time and they had to use them up

They are 'recommended' speed limit, and not the legal maximum speed limit.

Just some help, I was caught overspeeding at 148km on Thepkasattri road. It was definitely the highway after the Airport intersection.

So the very next day, I slowed down and started taking note of all the cameras. Not sure if all these cameras are functional as I believe I was snapped just before the Turtle village area. Some of the cameras are spherical, so I doubt they are considered as Speed Cams.

BTWS: Good joke having those cams updated on google maps

I think those a regular traffic cameras. The 2 I've seen on the main road are house in a large squarish box. One is up near the Blue Canyon on the south bound side. The other is near the airport turn off. Supped to be one on the bypass road but I have not spotted it yet.
