By theory:

the color is specified in the blue book (vehicle registration) issued by the DLT (Department of Land Transport) on page 4, fourth line below name of manufacturer.

Modifications of the car have to be inspected at the office.

So quite sure you have to drive to DLT with the car.

No idea how important/urgent it is and what the penalty for not doing is.

Have  also heard (might be BS) that to change the colour in the book an invoice from a legit company must also be presented to the DLT.

I've heard it can be a 500 donation if you have painted the roof a different colour and BIB decide to check.

I will probably ask when I take it for recheck after off the road for two years rebuild.

Pay outstanding road tax etc and see where it goes.

Cheers.

ive no idea, just some barstool banter I overheard but i'd be pissed if I got a cheapy paint job done only to have the DLT refuse to update the book due to no invoice.

a lateral thought on this - what if, instead of painting, you Plastidip spray the car.

If a BiB don't like it the car different, peel it off in front of him.

You can have a different colour each week (and it protects the original duco from UV)

After a full rebuild, 240,000 baht I'm now at the change or remain on colour.

If it was a simple note in the blue book change then I'd go for it but it looks like going for the original colour.

The idea of the colour wrap you could just pull off has a certain entertainment appeal.

I will post on it in future when it happens.?

I did a color change. You have to bring the receipt from shop that does the actual job. The color is inspected. And you go pay a fee. If I remember correctly, it was 140 Baht. Done in Bangkok last year. All in all, done in 10-15 mins.

I painted my car half another colour and there was never a  problem.

One annoying thing is if you get something like LPG added, then you need to go to the DLT to change the blue book, AND it only lasts for 5 years.
