Rachayothin residents to face two years of traffic chaos as busy bridge comes down

BANGKOK: -- Residents in the northern Bangkok suburb of Rachayothin face years of worsening traffic chaos as authorities prepare to pull down a major flyover.

The busy Rachayothin flyover on Rachadaphisek Road will be torn down starting on November 26th, reports Sanook.

It will take two months to remove but that will not be the end of traffic woes for residents in the area that have already seen one year of massive congestion  as the Green Line skytrain is constructed.

A tunnel is being dug instead of the overpass and that will take two years to complete. The scheduled finish date for the tunnel is February 2019.

The Green Line is running from Mor Chit to Saphan Mai then to Khukhot - it will pass through the intersection running along Pahonyothin Road.

The overpass is expected to be torn down by the end of January 2017.

Traffic cops have promised faster change times for the lights at the notoriously slow intersection. Also it will now be possible to continue straight on in both directions along Rachadaphisek Road.

The overpass will be shut from 10am to 3pm on the 22nd and 23rd of November, then from 8am to 5pm on the 24th and 25th before it is closed for good at 1am on the 26th.

Police said that anyone contemplating driving through the area should allow an extra 30 minutes for their journeys.

Got out of this area and out of BKK altogether.....it's just a chaotic nightmare on the roads....heading the way of Jakarta and Manila!

Bangkok Post showed a detailed map of this area showing detours. Now I can't find it.

Yeah those cities are so peaceful those days and safe!:saai:

"Police said that anyone contemplating driving through the area should allow an extra 30 minutes for their journeys. "

they must have misquoted the police there because only a clueless muppet would say such thing! driving around bangkok has just been added as another method to kill one's self.

Google maps is the solution, they guide you to avoid traffic jams, even re-direct when situations change.

Wherever go in The Big Mango, I turn  on Google and let the British lady  guide me.

................ Police said that anyone contemplating driving through the area should allow an extra 30 minutes for their journeys ...............:cheesy::cheesy:

Times 5 at least!! Even early on a Sunday morning (7am), Pholyothin is packed (not necessarily jammed) with traffic. So, weekday rush hour will be fun.

Oh no, not that it was difficult already to get to the Major Ratchayothin...
Now even with motorcycle you stuck in the traffic.
