BANGKOK:-- Seven policemen from Sutthisan Police Station have been charged with fatally assaulting a 34-year-old punter during a raid on an illegal gambling house in Bangkok's Huai Kwang district on November 3.

Metropolitan Police Area 2 deputy chief Colonel Khomsak Sumangkaset on Saturday said that case investigator Lieutenant Theerapol Hongsri had received the autopsy result on Friday that revealed Don Daengchantip had died from blood circulation failure combined with the fact that he had ischemic heart disease.

BANGKOK:-- Seven police officers at the Suthisarn station in Bangkok are to face charges in the alleged beating death of a man playing Hi-Lo earlier this month.

The officers were involved in subduing Don Daengjantip, 34, at the Rung Reuang estate in the Huay Kwang area of the city on November 3rd.

Don, who had been sitting at a restaurant gambling with a woman, resisted arrest and died at the scene. Police initially denied they were there then were forced to backtrack.

The seven officers face charges of assault causing death for which the penalty is 3 to 15 years.

But Region 2 commander Khomsak Sumangkaset while accepting that the officers had played a part in the man's death said yesterday that they had followed police procedures.

Following the results of an autopsy on the body he said that the victim would not have died but for having an existing heart condition.

Khomsak said that the victim was forced to the ground and held there due to his size and that he was fighting back.

However, the police action contributed to his death and it was correct that the officers concerned should face charges.

All concerned will be assigned clerical duties at headquarters while it is decided whether to remove them from the force.

The case will now go to court for criminal prosecution.

As I said to my wife, it is only theThai populace that can make these changes and insist that the law is carried out.

I Googled the word ischemic and you get a lot of different answers. Sounds like the buy was a ticking health bomb and the BIB lit the fuse.

Many years ago in Australia, a neighbour had been harassing the family next door for quite some time. Then one day he entered the neighbours front garden and attacked the male neighbour. Both were middle aged late 40's early 50's. The neighbour did what he could to defend himself when the man attacking him collapsed and died. Autopsy revealed he died of heart failure. The neighbour was still charged with manslaughter. He was in his own front yard when attacked. He eventually went to court and was acquitted. However it cost him a lot of money to defend himself plus he had to hire 24hr security for his family at home for several months to guard against any retaliation by the victims son and friends. So its not just Thailand where the law is an ass.
