Jalapeño peppers in Thailand?

Featured Replies

Thirty years  in Thailand, the last three in Isaan, and I have yet to see jalapeño peppers in fresh markets or sprouting in fields -- only the expensive imported variety in jars at upscale supermarkets.  Do they not grow in Thailand, a land of truly spectacular pepper plants, or have I simply not noticed?  I would like to grow some.  Anybody know about  this?

My wife purchases them in jars in the UK and not expensive at all, unlike Tops.  I love chilies but something about the occasional jalapeno that hits the spot.

I'd be interested to know whether they can be grown here too, and sure they could given the climate.

The Kings Project in Chiang Mai grows them, they are available in the local

supermarket Rimping.

As above, the "Kings  project" shop sells them regularly here in UdonThani, we grow them in our garden also.

It's not allowed to make some advertising so I'm not sure you will see this link. It's a company in Chiang Rai.

I think it's OK to hint that the OP should google for

Thai Pepper Products Chiang Rai.

I deleted your link. It would not work anyway as it pointed to your hard disk.

I have seen them at Home Fresh in The Mall in Korat. Also once in awhile in Makro in Korat.

Got the link before the Mod kicked it off and have ordered seeds, which are on their way.

Available at most rural markets. I'm confused in that 30 years Oobar hasn't seen them on sale.  confused.gif
