Good morning Jimmy! What is happening with storm surge and the tides along Ban Por beach? The Ban Makam beachfront going from Nathon to the hill where the Four Seasons is is crowded with beach front restaurants and even a guest house or two on the ocean side of the road, are they taking a hit this week? My favorite restaurant there had a big washout from flooding the last flooding episode (from rainwater, not ocean water). Ban Tai beach also took some heavy hits in years past. I wonder if the ocean is reclaiming some of the areas that should never have had any structures built that close to the highest tides (and there will another few days of very high tides next week). Anybody done a walk around? Love to see some pictures of what is happening on.

Hello Islandguy!

All I can say is it's not easy getting out and about, closest route to me to main road is a huge river, just down the road, only large trucks can get through... probably even worse this morning as it rained all night !

I did make a back road trip to 7-11 yesterday, by using a back route,  and still had to go through some large "rivers" which were not as deep! about 3 kms instead of about one km.

I glanced at the sea, tide seemed very high.. but did not venture further than I needed too... I was already soaked

When things clear up, which I think will be a few days yet, I may venture out with the camera and check things out! I am sure some it will not be a pretty sight in some areas!

How about giving us a better report of your area!

South island rain steady all night. Neighbors electric meter box blew up so played firefighter at 0400. EGAT lads were here at 0730 pulling the meter for replacement, good show boys!
Ring road around Huathanon is sloppy with deep spots with no drainage.
Some side roads impassable. Gonna go for a little drive see if I can find a hardware shop open, right now I am loving my 2002 Hilux Tiger! Unstoppable little beastie.

Saw EGAT trucks around Laem Sor last night in the pouring rain, continue to think of them as most effective and hard working local government workers (a lot of the problems we have with electricity are caused by higher ups, guys on the crews just keep fixing what we have). If we get strong winds I wonder if some of the concrete power poles will 'swim' out of their bases...

Even saw the big trash truck collecting last night, what a hard job!

Phang Ka to Laem Set had some spots on the road covered with flowing water yesterday early afternoon I have never seen in 8 years of driving that section of road (around the time of the high tide and after hours of hard rain). Mostly receded by 4pm. The drainage on that section of road has been wrecked by installation of the new water pipes. Where the concrete drainage ditches were intact (new pipe put on other side of the road) the water was flowing hard and to the top of the ditches. Had a coconut tree blocking the road near Ban Buri (Laem Set road) early, was cut and moved later in the day.

Today I am trying to stay home all day, so no current reports.

Anybody know if you can get to Surat airport today? Had a client call me last night with a flight out of there at 5 today. Lomphraya had called him to tell him they weren't going today. Advised him to take SeaTrans and try hard to get a bus (instead of a minivan) that took the Krabi road around Surat (401 to 41) and not get dumped into the Phantip office in Surat town.

Mainland highways a mess. Hwy 41 closed in different sections. Yesterday before the worst part of the storm, it took 4 hours from Sichon to Surat airport.

Seriously considering buying a new vehicle for my shoppings today, this one seem to work fine for Samui roads...

My client has made it to the airport in Surat now. He said the tough part was Cheong Mon to Nathon, made it by paying a taxi double. He's at the airport now waiting for his flight.

Any time frame for the trip? Route taken?
Have to fly to Bkk from Surat on Wednesday so wondering if jy usual route Hwy 44 to 41 is possible or through Surat is better.
Cheers.

Last comment is just my opinion, Can Samui, based on Muang Samui and Punpin being prone to flooding. I don't have any specific info about 44/41.

Didn't ask, whatever the Seatrans bus took. Think you will be fine Wednesday but recommend your usual route rather than thru Surat

Have you tried the new bridge route to SRT?

That is what Airasia minibuses use.

Not on my desktop now but can post map later.

Basically you turn right at BigC Surat and then left after one km then you are on the new bridge.

Been on it a few times by bus and once driving. More likely to be flooded this week than the longer superhighway route. Also more likely to get stuck behind slow traffic. Fastest way though if not much traffic, and more to see. They keep adding more lanes, so easier to pass than before.

In the magic crystal ball it seems like we are going to have one more night with heavy rain, some 80 mm, and again the night till Monday with 40 mm only, and then it should finally clear up. However, it seem like the Weather Gods have stretched the monsoon-rain longer-and-longer all the time this year, so the crystal ball is still misty, like indicating not much Sun in the coming week, and that can include showers...:crying:

Anyone in surat thani now to verify road condition?

Torrential rain has started again on the mainland. You can download this APP in Thai, then get it changed to English, it will point out problem spots.

I managed to get to Nathon today,  ring road between Ban Por and Nathon was pretty good... there have been a couple more rock slides on the hill, which they were working on clearing... just drive slowly and all will be fine!

Seas look remarkably calm, tides are high... I saw a Seatran ferry leaving, which means ferries are running

Tesco (Nathon)and local 7'11's are getting low or out of  some items... a few shelves were bare! (more so  in 7-11)

Rain held off most of the day, but I now hear it starting to fall again! ... next wave coming!

I was in Tesco Nathon this am and the fruit and veg section was full & they were trying to find space for more fresh deliveries ... the meat section was fine and there seemed to be full selves as far as I could see .. They always run out of some things though ... I did not see empty selves .

Weather in Bang Por .. Fine all day .. we are just ,  at 7.15pm ,  are  getting some fine drizzle but hopefully ,  as today most forcastes were wrong  , I hope the worst is over ....

There are workers on the ' hill ' and it seems the section they are working on is going to be difficult .. the road seems to be subsiding ... not sure what they can do .

Roads are easily passable in this area .. but Bophut this am was difficult .. I understand it is better now .

Yes.  Accuweather is showing 50mm between 2am and 4am early hours Sunday.

I tried to get into Chaweng today on my scooter. Passed through a couple of deep spots near Tango Resort, but from Prego to the lake road junction was too deep for my bike, so I turned around and went home.

The ring road between Supot and just short of Bophut lights was quite bad this afternoon (half a meter deep) but the road from Maenam to Tesco was otherwise clear, even at Big C.

But they are pumping water with big pumps, and we saw Big-Boss-of-Samui walking along the Ring Road up to the broken traffic light af Fisherman Village checking everything. When returning 9:30 pm pumping had stopped for the day, and water-level was reasonable low for passing, I'll guess about 20 cm on a short distance after The Wharf, in front of Anatara. However, the roundabout by Chaweng Lake is still heavily flooded, but passable in car; motor-bikers may get wet feet...

Just watched PG961 from BKK arrive around 16:00hrs and abort twice in heavy rain.

Watching on Flightradar24 app and it looks like it's returning to BKK. Flight time over 2 hours and still not landed.

Bummer for those tourists arriving for their hols.
