Traffic on the Suk

Featured Replies

I got caught up in the gridlock on Monday around 5pm.

It was a car park from just past the Bunkanchanaram temple going North.

I was turning off at soi 56 & my heart was going out to the poor souls stuck in that horror.

Viva le motorcycle.... I gave up using cars in BKK long time ago, I use them

only when I have no choice......

End of the long weekend.

Bangkokians rushing creeping home?

More and more families can afford a car and a Pattaya weekend

Planning the right time to drive to/from/within Pattaya becomes a science

No need at all to feel sorry for them as they’re all shills for TAT earning their pay. Trouble is, as TAT: TVF knows quite well, Pattaya no longer has any tourists, domestic or foreign (though TAT: TVF doesn't allow domestic tourists to be called "tourists"), owing to the pollution, trash, rats, open ditches, filth, stink, crappy views, no beach, broken sidewalks, broken pedestrian lights, crappy promenade with no shade or seats, shops closed, deserted malls, sidewalks blocked, overhanging signs, speed bumps, overhanging wires, corrupt police, no metered taxis, arrogant hotel clerks, unsmiling cashiers, crazy driving, overpricing, crotch-grabbing ladyboys, gold necklace & bag snatchers, baht bus ripoffs, deserted condo buildings, ruined buildings, ruined pier, jet ski scams, deserted bars, high bar fines, noise pollution, lack of overpasses on Sukhumvit, and—traffic. To mention a few critical issues. It's just horrible.

Now, there’s been no high season in many years. In fact, TAT: TVF has already cancelled it for this year. We're calling it merely "cool season" to avoid the yearly Lowest High Season Ever??? death thread.

So TAT has merely resorted to paying people to come in, lots of Cambodians and Burmese actually, and pretend to be tourists, both domestic and foreign. You'll see the same ones over and over in various prominent locations around town. And some are merely holograms projected from hovering drones launched from City Hall.

Now the point of this show is simply to inflate the TAT reported tourist numbers! Though that would seem to be for the howls of laughter from our peanut gallery, shrewd members know that some sort of corruption is involved. Somebody’s getting paid to make up all them fake numbers. Yeah.

Still, for the few genuine commuters, it is rather a mess.

Came from Bangkok this morning and the Tunnel is open!

(probably only temporarily)

They are doing some works on the topside on the southbound suk, so they make a detour and herded traffic down into the tunnel, giving us a look at the progress... I must say compared to the underpasses I'd experienced in Bangkok, this tunnel is unexpectedly long!
