Amazon Fire Tv with 4k

Featured Replies

Anyone have one of these boxes in use in Thailand and how do they perform?

I have the Fire TV2 box. I upgraded from a Minix Neo+ and it works really well.

I only have a 1080 TV so haven't ran any 4k stuff on it.

Netflix is great at 1080. Movies from my NAS are great at 1080.

Sideloaded apps work as they should (my main TV app is ThaiExpat.TV).

The only downsides for me are the single USB port (I bought a cheap powered 5 post USB extender which doesn't work) and the remote is a bit limited (I use the excellent one that came with some Minix packages). You can't set the clock to Thailand (it has no effect on anything though) so mine's set to Japanese time.

From what I have read online, if you want reliable 4k you should probably look elsewhere.

Thanks for the info on FireTV 2 box, will probably look at the NVidia box instead.

Also consider the Xiaomi Mi box. Netflix is pre-installed but also only 1usb2 but I tried a usb hub (4conns) and that works.

I just got one and for the price, it's very good but off-course not in same class as the Nvidia.
