Hi guys,

is it possible to get a motorbike registrated in my name without any sort of contract with the previous owner?

The owner is long gone back to russia

I have:

- green book

-tax/insurance papers

-signed copy of the previous owners passport

thx

Sometimes it depends on the city you live in. Some still deny farang ownership of cars and motorbikes totally, while other cities are okey with it. I would just go to the assigned place for it, explain the situation and ask there. It´s probably the best you can do. If you get a know you also have the chance to sk in a couple of different cities where the answer can change.

I had the same problem, 10 years ago. Bought a bike in bkk, but the owner in greenbook was swiss and nowhere to be found. It took 1.5 years of repeated pushing by me to the shop to get it done.... It probably isn't easy to do this way.

You asked a yes or no question and you got an honest, true answer.

If you can't handle the truth, why ask?.

I also had the same situation about 4 years ago.

Bike had gone from a farang to a Thai and then to me. The Thai guy didnt bother to do the ownership change, and by time i got hold of the previous farang owners paperwork his visa was well expired.

Luckily I managed to hunt him down on Facebook (about the only tine its ever been truely useful lol) and fortunately he was still in and out of LOS. I arranged to meet up amd got everything sorted.

So, id recommend, as mentioned, to explain the situation at the DLT and see what sort of response you get or else try to hunt the owner down and see if they are likely to return to LOS.

If all else fails, i would just keep all the registration, tax, and insurance up to date and just ride it. I doubt you would ever have a real issue.

Just my 2c
