Hotels and Tourism Outlets Gear Up for 2016 Chiang Rai ASEAN Flower Festival

CHIANG RAI – The Tourism Authority of Thailand and tourism agencies have held a press conference on the upcoming 2016 Chiang Rai ASEAN Flower Festival at Chiang Rai’ s old City Hall.

Vice governor Sakchai Wongkanit said on the day that Thai people’s gratitude to HM the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej would be the theme of this year’s festival.

The event will take place at the flower garden by the Mae Kok River and will run from 23th December to 8th January. He added vacationers could rest assured of sufficient facilities during the festival since Chiang Rai boasts around 30,000 standard hotel rooms and beautiful resorts.

Commanding General of the 37th Military Circle Maj. Gen. Bancha Duriyaphan disclosed that the military had strengthened security measures to ensure visitors’ safety.

Indeed, I have no doubt that there will be a plentiful supply of rooms.

I'll be spending 3 days in chiang rai from the 24th. One of them I'll be going to Doi Mae Salong but the other day I was planning on going to Doi Tung and Rai Boon Rawd.

Is the flower festival worth bumping one of the others for?

You can do Doi Mae Salong and Doi Tung the same day.

Flower Show one evening?

No need for bumping.

I agree with Scea.  Rai Boon Rawd is in the opposite direction and a long drive from Doi Tung.  You might do Mae Salong and if you like mountain roads, try the 1338 over to Doi Tung.  My favorite part of Doi Tung is up past the main tourist spots.

Those Doi Tung pics are amazing!!! The driver from my hotel said "only 1 Doi per day as it's too much driving", so that's why I split them up.

Fair enough, I suspect that the long term residents here would do it easily in a day and still have time for a bit of shopping at MaeSai but a first timer may struggle.
