Joe, I guess, then, that you're not paying Medicare premiums?

No I don't.

I see no reason to pay for something I cannot get any benefit from.

Makes sense to me. Many over here, with the exception of retired military, are in your situation.

It's nice to know they are finally coming out with the letters this year.

I am currently in Hong Kong but returning to Bangkok today (31 December 2016)

Hopefully I will have my letter awaiting me at my residence in Bangkok.

MY SSA pension is already paid directly to my Bangkok Bank accoiunt by dirrect deposit and has been since September 2014.

It should show up in my Bangkok Bank account thr first week of January 2017 as it does every momth.

My pension direct deposit normally shows up on the 4th of each month, give or take a day or two for holidays.

Might be a day or ywo late this month (January 2017 New Years day holidays in Thailand and bank closedfor them).

But it is nice to have the annual Benefits letter to copy and show as "proof of my pension" if asked.

Also used for income tax purposes.

My Jan payment posted to my U.S. bank account yesterday/30 Dec.   I live in Thailand but have the payment go to my US bank.  Maybe with this holiday period instead of the payment arriving 3 Jan (4Jan for Thailand) they pushed them out a little early.

They sent it on the 30th because the 2nd is a US holiday.

I have mine direct deposited to my Bangkok Bank account and they normally are credited to my account on the 3rd. It will the 4th this time since the 3rd is a bank holiday even though it has been received in New York.

so we can expect to receive an SMS from the Bangkok Bank on 04 January informing us of the SSA deposit?...considering that there's a lot of us 'ol US codgers on SSA pensions in Thailand there might be a BBK Bank server overload...

happy new year, folks...

No problem for the bank. No change to the number of transfers they will have to process.

They will get it done but it might be late in the day before you get the SMS. The latest i have gotten it has been at 7 pm.

I have never received an SMS from Bangkok Bank although the funds have never failed to be in my account the 3rd of every month after 12 noon.

Probably because you are not signed up for the free SMS Remittance Alert from Bankgok Bank.   More info below.

yeah...I got my SMS from Bangkok Bank this month for my first monthly SSA payment on the 4th at about 3:30pm, the 3rd being a public holiday...

Mine was deposited and I received and SMS at 1440 on the third.  I went to BBL on the 4th and used the increase to pay off my house loan and buy a bottle of wine to celebrate!
