Toyota Tiger 2001 4x4 Brake Light Switch.

Featured Replies

Maybe this needs to go in the motoring forum wherever that is these days, but I am after a quick answer as I need to run the car to the airport tomorrow.

My Hilux Tiger developed a problem tonight, the brake lights have decided to come on ALL the time, (had to pull a fuse to get them to turn off tonight)

Does anyone know if there is some sort of adjustment, similar to a motorbike? (I can get them to turn off by really pulling the brake pedal upwards, but gravity alone turns them back on)

If there is adjustment then fine, I have half an hour or so tomorrow morning, but if it is a switch that is normally "on" and by pressing the pedal actually turns the switch off and activates the lights then maybe I need a new switch.

Cheers!

Well then, in response to the massive replies, I got my answer!

Took the truck to Toyota this morning (I found what was left of some sort of plastic space that had crumbled to crap on my footwell to show them)

It took a little while before they understood my crap Thai "MUNG YING Ai Hea" - until they realised the brake switch was fine and only the spacer was gone.

20 minutes later they had found the part, took it to their service bay (fitted it for free) then presented me the bill....printed out in quadrupelate......(4 times) with some 4 sheet capable printer (not cheap), and the fantastically extortionate price for the entire job was...........wait for it.....................................wait for it.........................................17 Baht!

Eat my shorts FORD! you robbers were charging your customers almost 5 bucks for that piece of crap plastic! You have to hand it to the Japs here in Thailand, the Yanks will never get more than a foot through the door when it comes to building and selling cars here.

My old Ranger had the same problem, spacer replaced with a rubber furniture foot that was in-stock. Never thought of trying Ford, recent experiences of their service led me to buy an Isuzu.

Do you know much about Toyota tigers we have one but it doesn't seem to rev any more than 2500 which is ok if driving in Bangkok but a pain if you want to go somewhere out of town as top speed is 80 and acceleration is eventually, am trying an ecu reset now as injectors were changed recently if it doesn't work it will have to go in for repair.

Regardless of make and marque, I fail to see why having a working brake light warrants such effort and expense.

In my country it is an offense to not have working brake lights, plus part of an MOT test. They are there to warn folk behind you are braking so they can take their own braking decision....

Before resetting the ECU I couldn't get enough revs for the turbo to kick in properly now it does and it whistles nicely, however the is a problem with one of the sensors and the ECU needs resetting  to often, we are going to the brother in laws just outside Surat next month and he is a much better mechanic than me I know a lot more about big bikes than cars to be fair and the fact that my tools haven't arrived yet doesn't help.
