Vietnam Visa - Only 1 Blank Page in Passport

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm in Thailand with 2 blank pages in my passport.  Planning on going to Lao and then to Vietnam to get a new passport.

Lao visa will take 1 full page.  Will apply for Vietnamese visa in Savannakhet which will take the last page.

Problem is I have just read that the Vietnamese may require 2 blank pages in passport.

True?  Any way around it?

Yes.

Get your new passport in Bangkok.

Hmm, I was afraid of that.  But thank you for the info.  Not enough time before my Thai visa expires to apply for a new passport in BKK....unless they can expedite it.

Follow up question... Vietnamese consulate in Savannakhet, Lao....

Will they issue 3 month single or multiple entry tourist visas?  If not, 1 month multiple possible?  I'm planning on crossing into Vietnam overland so don't think the online visas help me.

Depends on your nationality but some dionot require visas for VN for less than 15 days stay

And some places only give 1 year visas to US passport holders

I think if you are from Europe you don't need a Visa.

Updates on 01-07-2016: Starting from 01/July/2016 to 30/06/2017, visitors from the following countries may not need a visa to Vietnam for less than 15 days: Germany, France, the UK, Italy, and Spain.

Agree, but my country is daft.  I tried to get a new passport last time I was home but told I couldn't because the one I had was still good for 7 more years and had "plenty" blank pages left.

Have pages added to existing passport ?

That would be nice.  They used to but stopped.  The coconuts instead brought in a 10 year passport with 29 usable pages.

You can apply for a new US passport at any time. I got mine about a year before it expired and I had plenty of pages left in it. I wanted the new passport so that when I did the next retirement extension a few months later it would be good for a full year.

I even emailed the citizen consular services at the US Embassy ahead of time to ask if I could do the renewal that early and their reply was that I could apply at any time.

I did exactly that for the same reason, my old passport has plenty of pages left and is good until July 17, but I want a couple long term visa's so needed to extend it.  Got the new pspt, the old is still good because I didn't report it stolen or anything like that, Consular officer said its still a good pspt but wouldn't travel on it if I didn't need too.
