A 5-year old girl killed and three others injured in train-car crash

 

 

A five-year old girl was killed while her father and two young cousins were injured when a pickup truck in which they were travelling was rammed by a train at a railway crossing in in Muang district of Surin province about noon on Friday.

 

Muang district police said that the rapid train from Ubon Ratchathani bound for Bangkok was approaching the Muang district’s railway station at about noon when it crashed into a pickup truck, driven by Mr Suraphan Nualyaem, 34, which tried to cross the rail track at the crossing not far away from the railway station.

 

The train dragged the truck to about 200 metres from the railway crossing before it finally stopped.

After an extensive investigation it has been determined that it is the train at fault. Nothing whatever to do with the driver of the vehicle who unlike the train has the opportunity to travel elsewhere. R.I.P. to the unfortunate child.

Rapid country train ? havent found one yet in Thailand all I can say beware when the fast train comes

Local authorities in Surin have confirmed that there is now 3 dead  the driver and his two daughters. He was drunk.

That is truly tragic, the father is no great loss as I am concerned but the children had no choice or opportunity.

A tremendous bit of "creative writing" here that apparently blames the  train driver for ramming a pick-up truck that had kids inside. ThaiPBS should discipline whoever wrote or edited this piece.

Even the slow moving trains in Thailand go fast enough to need a seriously long distance to come to a halt. The driver of the pick-up, drunk, remained in the truck with the kids inside when stuck on a level crossing. What was he thinking? That the train could stop on a sixpence or swerve around?

Another case of unbelievable stupidity, drunk or not, on the part of a Thai driver (not the train driver).

And they want high speed triains, not without fenced off railtracks and properly controlled crossings. If they can't see these trains coming imagine a 100 mile an hour train hurtling along the track knocking cows over left right and centre.

Why would they have train tracks going anywhere near vehicles!!!

 

I want the railroad company shut down and everyone fired and arrested.

The diver who was drunk and driving died. He killed his two daughters who were in his truck. There was also a young cousin that was thrown out of the vehicle and lived.
