BANGKOK — After more than a decade confusing commuters, two stations at the same location may be renamed.

As public rail continues expanding, officials discussed devising a system for naming stations and raised the issue that BTS Asok and MRT Sukhumvit, located at an interchange between the Skytrain and subway, should also share the same name.

thank goodness, i thought it was only me and my tired old brain that kept getting confused whenever i was in Bkk.

This is a good idea for visitors who don't know Bangkok.

Having two stations with the same name is going to reduce confusion ? :shock1:

Yeah, I don't think they should change the names, and certainly, they shouldn't name the two stations the same thing (unless they're planning to make it a true transfer/interchange, as is the case at Siam Square)...the names already make perfect sense, as they describe a street that bisects the train line in question: the MRT travels up and down Asoke-Ratchadapisaek, and bisects Sukhumvit, which is the station name.  the BTS travels up and down Sukhumvit, and bisects Asoke, which is the station name.  It's not rocket science.

Sad, Very sad. Has your life come to this? (just joking - I'd do the same).

For BTS Sala Daeng and MRT Silom I suggest Lumpini Park.

just read the article i was going to suggest they might as well do the same for all the other connected locations..

Simply changing the name "Asok" (and "Sukhumvit") to "Cowboy", change "Nana" to "Nana Plaza", based on the main reason why people use those stations, makes the most sense ever. Help the punters do their punting. BKK would be a ghost town without them.

What and have 3 stations all called Lumphini? Or 2 called Lumphini Park and one other called Lumphini?

Reminds me of all those Acton stations in London.

"Most people"??

So the sex tourists and sexpats who descend on those areas in the evenings outnumber the tens of thousands of Thai office workers, bank staff, shop workers who use those stations all day, every day?

Honestly, your comments grow more daft with each passing day.

The name's already taken, at one of the other corners of Lumpini. Actually, Silom would be fine for the bts here too, since there's only one station that alights on Silom proper (the next station Chong Nonsi has already swung round onto Sathorn). Of course if they want to appease the tourists, there's always "Patpong".

Across town, neither Asoke nor Sukhumvit are really accurate, so as suggested earlier there is a very strong case for Cowboy. Bangkok might do better to take a leaf out of Amsterdam's book and embrace it's uniqueness, rather than living in constant denial.

Ten years to come to this extremely logical and practical decision. Things move in mysterious ways TIT.
