KHON KAEN: -- Passengers were left with an extra night in Khon Kaen after the captain of a Kan Air flight aborted takeoff Tuesday.

Flight K8 - 8326 returned to the gate after the pilot contacted the tower saying there were "technical difficulties" on the ATR plane.

All passengers and their luggage were unloaded from the 3pm flight.

Airport director Athaya Lapmark said that all regulations had been followed and "most of the passengers" were happy without elaborating, reported Thairath.

Some of the 66 passengers were taken on flights to Bangkok to continue their journey to Chiang Mai while others stayed an extra night in Khon Kaen.

The airline also organized a 12-seater aircraft normally used on the Pai to Mae Hong Sorn route to pick up some of the stranded passengers.

It has not been announced yet what was wrong with the Kan Air plane.

At least they admitted to it. I was on a BA flight into Heathrow once which aborted landing but later denied it, claiming that the landing was not aborted when in fact it was due to the plane in the queue ahead of us not being able to clear the runway due to too much surface water due to rain.

KAN air ATR plane has technique problem in its history often.

It is the only "large" aircraft in this airline.

Technical problems are not unusual, but a lot more difficult to handle for a small airline as they don't have spare aircraft.

Kudos to the Cpt that he put safety first indeed.

Good to hear there were 66 PAX on board, which means fully or almost fully booked (depends on config), the route seems to be successful. I like such small airlines to succeed as they offer destinations and routes that otherwise would not be served
