How to spot baht buses going from Beach Road to Jomtien ?

I often see Sai 5 or Sai 6 on the top of the buses that indicate Jomtien or Na Jomtien, but so far I have only managed to hit the jackpot once where the baht bus would take me from Central Festival along Beach Road all the way to Jomtien.  Most of the time I they would jettison me at Walking Street or the junction of Wat Chai Mongkol.

My question is:  What does the signboard on the bus mean when they say Jomtien ?  Do they even go to Jomtien.  If not, how are they going to bring the Russians from Jomtien to Pattaya ?

And how does know if the bus is going to Jomtien or not ?

Short answer: you don't. The army has said it will crack down on buses not sticking to their advertised routes but I won't be holding my breath. The buses to Jomtien leave where they have always left. I live in Naklua and buses there say Naklua to Jomtien. I doubt that few; if any complete that route. I have to get off at Walking St and catch another to Jomtien. The new mayor; appointed yesterday; may alter things. Time will tell.

I got dumped from Jomtien at the Harbor Mall over by Soi 2 on 2nd road which was fine because that's where I wanted to go.  Then after my business I walked to Beach Road and got on another baht bus but got dumped again just short of Walking Street.  What gives?  I'm suspecting Thai greediness once again.  I don't mind mind walking several blocks but to be dumped and forced to do the same makes no sense, except for greediness.  I suspect they're conniving, definitely different.

Nobody is forcing you to walk ?

Just get on another baht bus going in the direction you are going.

It's only 10 baht <deleted>.

Not my point, my point is that the baht bus protocol has changed.  Again I suspect it is due to greediness.

Amazing. The baht bus fare hasn't risen in more years than most farang have been around and amounts to something like 25 US cents and Freddy Farang feels hard done by.  Someone is certainly greedy, among other things, but it's not the Thais.

Incidentally when you see people waving and shouting "kee niaow," they're not wishing you a safe journey.

Isn't Harbour Mall down at the east end of Klang?

No, they had their protocols in place pretty much, but it's changed without notice.  Nothing was mentioned about the fare.

Ok so it can be a little annoying sometimes but lets face it, is it really going to spoil your day?. I would suspect that it has happened to everyone, but its 10 baht, not exactly a fortune and probably the best bargain in pattaya.

Perhaps annoying not because of cost of the fare but rather the thought of being taken advantage of.  The cost of the fare is not an issue with me, being ripped off is.

i still remember the time, when the fare for songteows was 5 baht, within north and south pattaya, to jomtien and naglua it was an additional 5 baht. so from jomtien to naglua it was 15 baht, 20 years ago,  now its 10 baht. the time for an increase is long overdue, i guess, within this year they will ask for 20 baht from falangs, thais 10 baht.

Thats very strange because i usually get the right ones by asking :)  Or if youre abit asocial(nothing wrong with that btw) you can jump of after Walkingstreet on the stop. cross the road and continue

Wrong, when the authorities were planning all the new routes that they still have to get accepted, it was well reported that the fare would remain 10 baht.

I have been here long enough, to remember when it was 3 baht.

And you still had "Freddy Farang" moaning about the cost and how the baht bus system worked.

To me, Pattaya's Baht Bus is the best value public transport in all of Thailand .... Long may that Continue.

I prefer to take the song-taews than drive (less stress, no worry about parking, & forces me to walk a few blocks). When hopping on a "public baht bus" (song-taew) in Nalua or along Beach Rd...the drivers will take you to the corner of 2nd Rd and South Pattaya Rd (where the Thai school and temple is located). You get off, walk (cautiously) across 2nd street and there will be 3-4 baht buses parked packing 12-14 people on board and take off for Jomtien. Not a big hassle. When returning from Jomtien area, hop on a baht bus along the beach road as they are passing by and these song-taews will go all the way to the Dolphin. Once you pass South Pattaya street going north  and then get off somewhere later (north Pattaya?) you should pay 20 baht (some Cheap Charlies will disagree with me on this).

If you took the time to read my initial post you'd realize that it wasn't about the fares or the routes. It was about being booted twice on the same day, once at Central Marina on 2nd and then again before Walking Street. Both drivers had cut their routes into smaller sections, booting you off, then driving on.

Your the exception paying 20B after South Pattaya Rd. I pay 20B if they go as far as the seafood market on Naklui Rd. The same for the return paying 10B up to Second & South Pattaya Rds then switch buses and a further 10B to Jomtien.

It could be that Baht Buses marked Naklua - Jomtien are being used on other routes. I have seen Baht Buses marked that way go along Soi Buakhao. Never been on one, just assumed they would go onto South Pattaya Road and then turn left at the lights.

As far as I can remember all buses that went along Beach Road and turned the corner made people get off opposite the Bamboo Bar.
