New laws for drivers

Featured Replies

In the Government's ever-strenuous efforts to make the roads safer, we have been informed by the Land Transportation department that new laws regarding drivers' clothing take effect on 1st April 2017 (thought it was a p*ss take when I saw the date, but this is real):

Green plate taxis: blue shirt, black trousers, black socks, black shoes

Yellow plate minibuses: blue, black or white shirt, black trousers, black socks, black shoes

Deviation from the above law results in a 2000 baht fine

Our partner in Phuket already had 1 driver fined 1000 baht for wearing red socks!

There must have been some really bored unmentionable sat in his office in Bangkok who thought up these laws. Why not get more police OUT of their a/c offices, away from their phones and enforce the TRAFFIC laws that already exist....now THAT would bring down the road toll.

Its not a bloody fashion show...

I got warned (but not fined) a while back for driving with no shirt.

Bald tyres, OK. Red socks 1,000 Baht fine.

Words fail me ...

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

Drivers have also been instructed not to wear that stupid smirk on their faces when they see policemen in uniforms two sizes too small for their bulk.

Unwary drivers may also be fined for wearing their hearts on their sleeves as honesty and innocence will not be tolerated.

Please await further announcement on metaphorical accouterments.

You can have a zillion road laws but if those paid to make sure you abide by those laws are nowhere to be seen then the carnage will never end..

thank goodness underpants continue to be whatever colour you like; i will continue to wear brown ones!

it is against the law to go out in public without underwear...if you had worn your string vest everything would have been fine.

Red socks the highest sedition since
2014 !

Yes remember the old Siam photos where the women where topless

then came Marshal Plaek Pibulsonggram-era (1938-1945) promoting the “civilized” form of dress

If you go out into the countryside  you still see some grandmas proudly walking around in their bra !

Well many choose to live places that enforce the law during working hours of a kind,  never a problem in the boonies

good idea, the wife beaters and flip flops just ain't the image.

now just need the driving licences sorted

Revenue raising (both receipted and otherwise) is always factored in to the formulation of Thai legislation. For traffic legislation, the ease with which the police can rake in cash at checkpoints may well be prioritised over road safety.

gawd  ive  been  illegal  for  53  years  then.................how  do  they  check??

I think they can now use the all powerful article 44...works for everything.

New law: The passing lane is for overladen pick-up trucks maximum 3 meters high with 20 leaf springs doing 80 kph with one-ton braking power. Oh, sorry, that's actually the old law... :giggle:
