person who puts diamonds and other high value items in a check

in luggage.....

Nope! That brain was already dead at birth.

this guy is so dumb to try, but the passenger was even dumber to pack valuables inside a checked-in luggage. it could've been a very expensive lesson for the passenger, which she deserved to learn the hard way.

How did he know which bag to ransack?

The x-ray guys put a chalk mark on the bags to steal from. (That is one method). Presumably that would be a nationwide thieving network.

Easy...it was labelled "handle carefully precious items inside" :whistling:

Well done, send him to the slammer - we have enough of that lowlife thievery in the country.

Agree, but getting into even a locked/strapped/wrapped suitcase is SOoooo easy & quick.  Really dumb to put valuables in checked luggage.  And it's not like they don't have X-ray machines back there.  (For that matter, just traveling with high-end luggage is probably like waving a red flag in front of a bull.)

Just a week or so ago, this happened at Swampy. My concern is that if things can be taken out, they can also be put in, when security appears to be having a snooze.

Theft and placing items into checked baggage is just so simple.....most bags have nylon zips which can be opened  and closed very easily....even wrapping in film is no guarantee of your bag not being tampered with.

Someone needs to clearly mark a bag as containing valuables and then put one of those exploding red dye packets inside like the banks use. Or rather it should be pink like those armbands that the naughty police were forced to wear some time ago. Maybe include a shot of pepper spray directed toward the perp to slow down as attempted escape after being "painted".
