PHUKET: -- Chalong Police have confirmed to The Phuket News that Olga Smirnova, the 53-year-old Russian woman arrested for feeding fish at Koh Racha and detained for two days in police detention cells because she could not raise the B100,000 bail required, has not been added to Thailand’s immigration blacklist.

”Phuket Immigration confirmed that Ms Smirnova was not added to the blacklist and she can travel in Phuket until her visa (permit to stay) expires on Mar 18,” Chalong Police Chief Col Krittapas Det-intarasorn told The Phuket News this morning.

“This is most likely because it is not a serious issue,” Col Krittapas added.

for feeding fish, the missing Russian girl case of last month is

still a mystery and no words of her where about... priorities

are a difficult thing to master in this country.....

If only she were filmed feeding fish. They would find her so they could fine her.

but she had to stay in jail for two days for "not a serious issue"??

So everyone complaining about a 100 k fine was wrong?
Nothing to do with the BIB by the way, this is MDRC trying to bring order in the bays, especially bungalow bay, at Racha yai.

She was not fined 100k,  she was fined 1k. The 100k was bail.

:sorry:..... I reckoned she wouldn't get off... wouldn't see her bail returned (doubt we will ever know for sure... but she should now given being released)...looks like I was wrong and that this is a good result... total BS circumstances at the beginning, but on the courts part... a good result ( I'm still really surprised though... lol)

No need to tell me. In the previous thread many people were commenting on the 100 k fine, and many were also claiming the fine would end up being 100k.

They were all wrong.

Chalong Police Station? By all accounts it's still a top location to buy mind altering substance. The former tourist Police volunteer dealer was was based here has moved to Phuket prison where he is well known to the local users and pushers.

The Chalong police set bail at the equivalent of the maximum fine allowed for desecration of the reef, and held her in jail for two days until friends could scrap together that large amount.

Anyone using common sense would assume the maximum penalties are there to punish those guilty of extreme acts of environmental vandalism such as dynamiting the national park reef or removing large amounts of coral or fish for commercial purposes.

This was a very minor transgression that could have been handled by the Marine Department with a warning. As it was, the charge they decided to bring at the police station should have been dealt with immediately with a small fine, <removed>

Something, from people high up, needs to be done to rein in this out-of-control police station!

The fish feeder committed her offence before the other Russian disappeared so the police priorities were correct.   Logic is a difficult thing to master for some people on this forum.

You just couldnt make up better than this c..p.

So she fed some fish, certainly not the crime of the century.

Have the BIB nothing better to do with their time?

Like  getting off their  lazy a...es and solving real crime.

Was every other case abandoned when this woman was arrested?

Would be interesting to see if the 100,000baht is returned in full......now immigration will have a crack at her and probably give her an overstay fine!

It really is a messed up place!

Why would the full amount not be returned to the woman who paid it?

She will not get an overstay fine.

It really is a messed up forum sometimes!

Since this case first came to light there has not been any mention of what law she broke. Does anyone know?

It's been mentioned a few times.  Those who read the thread will know.

A valid post you quoted there. Yours  I do not grasp.

He was saying that the poster he responded to was wrong about both points he mentioned.

The extreme the authorities go

For a 1,000 baht fine she is held on 100,000 baht

This shows you how twisted the police are Someone who commits a more egregious crime is not even charged

There is something seriously wrong with the system

For a minor infraction you do not put a tourist in Jail Its that simple

It's actually not that simple.

Funny how now that the woman has been fined the minimum amount, those who were initially screaming indignantly about her being fined B100,000 or having the potential to be fined that amount (even though anyone with any sense could see that that would not happen) are still desperately trying to knock the police and the system.  Not one of them is taking back there daft initial assertions.

In the meantime there is a plastic island floating around, many tons of plastic in Thailand Gulf.

Feeding all marine live , PLASTIC !!

Did they clear it now? I red they did.

How much this would cost?

But i guess they will not investigate and wait for the next floating island of plastic

Well done Thailand. That's the way to deal with all those nasty tourists. Lock em up and harass them and then send them to immigration to do it all over again. They will soon learn not to show their faces around here.

Then you can add more sewage lines out to the beaches.

or  more beach out to the sewage
