Boat towing big barge - Pattaya

Featured Replies

Hi,  Could not think of a better place to ask this question.  Off Pattaya and i have seen them going down the river in Bangkok.  They are these big long black barges being towed by what looks like tow (tug) boats.  Does anyone know what they are carting and to where.  It was suggested by someone that they are taking rubbish to the islands to essentially dump.  Iwas told that Koh Lan is totally full with mainland rubbish and can not take any more.  Thanks in ad

Rice usually and occasionally coal for the power stations - sorry to burst the rubbish dumping conspiracy bubble!!

The stories about garbage on Koh Larn is rubbish produced on the island

There are (or have been) barges bringing sand to Pattaya beach as part of the "nourishment" programme. I think the sand comes from Sattahip/Rayong area.

Oh ok..thanks.  The report about Koh Lan rubbish came from a Pattaya Councillor so not sure it is bullshit.  Thanks all

There's a tug towing up to 8 barges containing coal going past our place, Jomtien and Koh larn every day, gets loaded near siracha and then down the coast to a power station near rayon.
