Actually looks perfection compared to thai roads. Cant see a problem and should last another 30+ years here until a farang buys some cement and a barrow

My son is a pilot and tells me that part of Chiang Mai airport's runway is closed for repairs and there are runway repairs currently taking place at Suvarnabhumi Airport. Is there a theme here?

Well, the current government has whittled it's reserves down from 500 billion baht, to less than 75 billion. So, there is little money left for infrastructure. Sorry. We messed up. Not sure where the money went, but we managed to spend it.

I guess that is what happens when you have incompetent neophytes managing every ministry in the land. Oh well.

Thailand will not need airports for much longer....three submarines on order so they can "sneak" in the hi-so tourists undetected :cheesy:

Quite obvious, isn't it?

this is a great idea. give tourists rides on the subs. take them to some deep part of the ocean and give them a certificate.  take turns on the conning tower while surfaced. steer for a while. yell "dive dive!" over the PA system.

Theu may have been putting the money aside for those "Much Needed" submarines.

Airport runways do need maintenance. The weight of aircraft touching down on them does damage them over time. I am currently working with some of the guy who built Suvarnabhumi airport and I know they would have insisted on international standards being applied. However, small airports do seem to be neglected until they can not be used. This has to have an effect on the tourism but typical Thai attitude "It will be ok"

Absolutely and they are now running out of excuses for blaming the Shinawatra's, not of course that will stop some TV members. This country is being pillaged to a degree never seen before in it's history, and given the numerous unelected governments, that is saying something

In my opinion, this is the best airport in Thailand for arrivals.  Walk off the plane, down the stairs and out the door.  Fantastically quick and easy.

Excuse me but....Krabi Airport isn't going to help me or be easier if I need to be in Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai or BKK....

Had a flight rescheduled weeks ago as they knew then that the Tarmac was going to be closed at night for repairs so can't understand how you'd be 'stranded'??

Yes there is...we all want to let everyone know how proud we are of our children.

Don't forget that there was losts of rain in southern Thailand including Trang and Krabi, more than usual, and  this could

have undermined the soil in the area including at the airport. Yes it is possible that there was also shoddy construction,

but I do remember a lot of flooding happened in the South Thailand areas.

I used it once.  It was nice to use a small airport, no lines, etc.  U Ta pow outside pattaya was easy to fly in and out of also.  Phuket is such a mess, that doesn't  make the nice list

Correct. And even though virtually every Thai I speak with, who is willing to speak openly about this administration, completely disapproves of them, few are aware of just how corrupt they are. They are able to hide behind the honorable facade of the army, and people just do not know what is going on, and how much money is being made. There is a good reason why nobody big is being brought down, and nobody rich or influential is being charged with corruption, or other crimes.
