Formica (or like product) availability in Thailand?

It has been my impression over the recent years that I have been here that it is possible to get your hands largely on any product of practical importance here in Udon Thani, regardless of the fact that it is far from the cosmopolitan center of Bangkok. For the first time I think I am a bit stumped. I put out a call on the udonmap forum and have yet to get much clarity in my search for a locally sourceable product akin to formica, as in the laminate sheeting that is used to cover many a kitchen counter top.

One gentleman on that forum has underlined what I suspect worryingly might be a reasonable picture of reality he said that he had great difficulty finding it but did come across it in Wood Street in Bangkok. Can anybody out there in greater Thailand shed any light on the availability of such a product, particularly up here in Isaan?

I've never seen Formica anywhere in Thailand. With cheap and readily available ceramic tile, unless you have a specific reason for wanting formica.

Also consider that you need a base, chipboard and MDF don't last long here and if you're going with decent timber, finish it nicely and forget the Formica.

AND granite isn't overly costly and looks infinitely nicer than even real Formica.

Formica/ laminate is available here in Chiang Mai at the merchant Suksawad Plywood.

I think their head office is elsewhere in Thailand but we have two outlets and a joinery factory here so they must have outlets elsewhere.

Google them and get a Thai speaker to ask your question.

Formica, Wilsonart, and a Thai made laminate are readily available in Chiang Mai. The Thai product is definitely inferior. There are several furniture builder suppliers that carry them. They also have good quality plywood to use as a base, or you can use Viva Board, which isn't affected by water or bugs.

Their website suggests that they are a Chang Mai operation

as as I mentioned on the other forum wood street (Soi Pracha Rat 24 in the Bang Sue district of Bangkok) has a rainbow of colours and a few grades available, even on Sunday when most shops there are closed.
