HOSTS THAILAND reached the final of the Davis Cup Zone Asia/Oceania Qualifying Group II tie for the third successive year, outclassing the Philippines 3-0 at the LTAT National Tennis Development Centre in Muang Thong Thani yesterday.

Thailand had a convincing 2-0 lead from the singles matches on Friday and wrapped up the tie in just one hour and 21 minutes yesterday when Sonchat and Sanchai Ratiwatana routed Jason Patrombon and Patrick-John Terro 6-1 6-4 6-2. The unassailable lead meant that the reverse singles have become inconsequential. The Kingdom will play Pakistan in the final in September for a spot in Group I next year.

“We wanted to finish the job today and not give any hope for the Philippines on Sunday. We gave as many balls as possible to Jason as he looked tired from Friday’s rubber,” said Sonchat.

Thai skipper Vittaya Samrej credited his players for the fine victory. “The four players [including Wishaya Trongcharoenchaikul and Jirat Navasirisomboon] showed their commitment and lived up to the expectations. It was a job well done. We achieved our target by winning the tie and reaching the final,” said Vittaya.

Sonchat and Sanchai had the chance, what about Somchai? They should give him a chance.

Congratulations, the World will watch you.....
