PHUKET: The fourth day of the Seven Days of Danger road-safety campaign for the Songkran holidays drew to a close at midnight last night with Phuket maintaining a record of zero deaths in road accidents during the campaign.

However 11 people were reported injured in 10 accidents across the island during the 24-hour period, according to official statistics provided by the Phuket office of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM).

Three of the accidents were in Muang District, which encompasses Phuket Town, Kata-Karon, Wichit, Chalong, Rawai and Nai Harn, and the other four accidents were in Thalang District, which covers the northern half of the island.

Kathu District, which includes Phuket’s party town of Patong and other key beach areas including Kamala, suffered three accidents, said the DDPM report.

So what can be learned from Phuket?Maybe because on Phuket roads there been placement of signs besides their roads indicating a low maximum speed?seems the roads speed in general on Phuket roads have been reduced and of course to fine all motorists who do not obey the low maximum speed. Also improve traffic spots where several big traffic accidents have occured.Well done Phuket!!!

I wonder if i went to the hospital if the staff would confirm this article..:saai:

Interesting to note that the internet comes up with only 3 deaths during the same period in Phuket last year, 2016.

It also says on another site that over the 2016's - '7 dangerous days of New Year2016/7' - only 5 people died.

Remarkable statistics for Phuket........

Meanwhile, all over the rest of Thailand, mayhem!

Maybe a campaign of "365 days of danger " might work

Those signs in many places are not correct.

On Phuket on average it is about 15 deaths a month. So 3 deaths in a 7 day period is about average. This year so far below, but that can change in 1 mishap, so does not mean too much.

Why not?

Read this news article http://www.thephuketnews.com/mandatory-speed-limit-on-main-phuket-road-is-not-mandatory-51547.php

These new 50 signs are only 'advisory'.

“Actually, speed is limited by law on this road to 80kmh in tessabaan (municipal) areas and 90 kmh in other parts. Our speed cameras are set to detect vehicles going faster than 100. Anyone caught going faster than that risks receiving a speeding ticket in the mail.” -

If true, then its very good news.

Perhaps because Phuket (at least where I live) only has water throwing one day, rather than two or more?

Better advisory speed signs than no speed signs at all besides the road.

Better the traffic police took a more active role in chasing/stopping obvious bad driving. But no they just set up traffic stops to boost their monthly pay cheques. I've never seen a BiB chase and stop a crazy driver. They just ignore. Mind you just last week there was a big story about a German lady running  a red light and the BiB did go to the trouble of stopping her - mind that was just outside Chalong cop shop.

Phuket suffers first death for Songkran holidays

PHUKET: The island has suffered its first fatality for the Songkran Seven Days of Danger road-safety campaign with the death of a Thai woman who sustained fatal head injuries in a fall from a motorcycle. She was not wearing a helmet.

Start with hanging up speed signs than have police enforcing these speed limits not the other way round

Still dreaming ... and you admit it ... 'in time'

'in your country'  ... this is Thailand and as far as I know no speed ticket have been issued from  speed cameras ... indeed I doubt these camers even work.
