BANGKOK: -- The Public Works Department of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has instructed all 50 districts of the capital to check on advertising billboards and trees at the start of the rainy season to prevent accidents, warning that the owners of billboards and trees would be held responsible for any accidents.

BMA deputy governor Jakkapan Phiewngam on Wednesday said 1,078 large-sized billboards were erected in various Bangkok districts, especially in Chatuchak and Lat Krabang.

These signs were at risk of being toppled during rainstorms hence their owners must ensure the structures were firmly secured to prevent harm to others under the Building Control Act 2015.

Jakkapan said city officials had the duty to check on the billboards and inform the owners to abide by the law.

He said the private owners of trees must also take precautions, warning that the owners of premises where the trees were planted would be held responsible for any accidents.

And what about dogs who are born on the premises, are the private owners also responsible for them in case they cause accidents?

Looks like one of those ad infinitum problems. Sounds good in the news but heaven help you if your tree or billboard goes on a assault rampage.

Does that always work ....

I seem to remember almost exactly the same from last year ... after another fatal event

Every year...

Checks on billboards (after one collapses)

Clampdown on busses & minivans (after an accident)

Drains to be cleaned (after flooding)

Food defenses to be checked and secured (after flooding)

Taxi's to the clamped down upon (after a public incident)

Nightclubs to be checked (after a major incident / fire etc)

etc etc etc...

When will proactiveness become of key importance in Thailand ?
