Can' install monthly update (KB4019264)

Featured Replies

2017-05 Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7 for x86-based Systems (KB4019264)

************************************************************************************************

I have Win7 32bit and the monthly Rollup won't install.

The download gets to about 11% then fails. I have downloaded the file (KB4019264) from the Windows Update Catalog website but after gong through the motions of installing the update it gives a Fail notice with no explanation as to why it fails to install.

Anyone else having a problem with installing this Update, or am I the only one

It installed OK on my Win 7 machine.

Here's an interesting slightly older thread on the WindowsSecrets forum website that might give you some items to try (both gathering error messages and clearing install files):

Can't install Security Monthly Quality Rollup

While *anything* can be responsible for blocking the successful install or update of an update, there are the usual suspects.

Yea! Seems I'm the only one having this problem

@RichCor  :- Thanks for the link. Tried most of their suggestions but still no go

I Checked the update history and it confirms the update had failed and gives an error code with a link to "get help with this error" which suggests "check your spelling or try a different phrase"- Not at all helpful.

I downloaded and ran the "Windows Update Troubleshooter" which fixed several problems but not mine, with no help how to fix the problem.

Ran sfc /scannow but that didn't show any problems

Tried installing in Safe Mode but seems  "you can't do this in Safe Mode"

I disabled Windows Firewall and Windows Security Essentials but still got the failed notice.

Saw somewhere that "Quality Rollup for .NET Framework" should be installed so installed that but still didn't work.

Not having a good day

I google you problem before I made my first post....you are not the only one having this problem, but not sure that provides any solace.  Buy hey, a person can google "anything" and come up with people who have have problems.

I sure know I've had problems over my computering life in getting certain updates to install.  I remember one time probably around 8 years ago one of my computers running XP at the time simply would not install several updates no mater what I tried.  They would download but when beginning the install I would get an error.  I googled the problem...once gain found other people who had similar problems and other who had no problems.  This went on for about 10 days as I would try daily to get them to load even when trying manual installs....then one day they just installed.

It was probably a buggy update that didn't like something regarding my machine (and other peoples machines),  MS released an update patch and all was well then.

Heck, just last week on my Win 7 machine an "Optional" driver update was available....I always install anything required. recommended, or optional as 99% of the time all goes well.  Well, this driver simply would not install.  It was a very small file size, download in a second or two but would always fail to install.    I just "Hid" it as I figure that driver was really incompatible with my machine.   And about 3 years ago an optional  "Wifi" driver would not install and actually caused the Blue Screen of Death during bootup.  I had to reload a drive image to get going again.  Once again I "Hid" that driver update to prevent further attempts to install. Fortunately over the years I've only had to Hide a few optional driver updates; never a recommend or critical update.

Try doing a google search for the error, possibly even KB4019264 plus the error number, and see what google throws up.

I just linked to that user support thread as they were trying A LOT OF DIAGNOSTICS against one user.

But sometimes, after spending way to much time on something, it's just better to backup and nuke everything, install the last largest windows rollup update, the let windows update pick up the rest.

Hope people are remembering to disable SMBv1.

Thanks fellas

Spending way to much time on this and it's doing my head in

Think I'll just "hide" it - out of sight out of mind, and find some solvable problems.

Wait and see what the next months update throws up

Cheers

I had a recent update (KB4019472) fail 9 or 10 times. What worked for me was:

Stop and disable the Windows Update service.

Reboot

Delete the contents of c:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download

Enable the Windows Update service and set to automatic startup type.

Reboot.

The update then installed almost immediately after clicking on "Check for updates" in Settings / Update & Security.

I just tried to update another laptop and this same KB stopped at 46%.

So I did the above trick and it restarted and stopped at 9%.

I then did this trick:

"Windows key + S, search bar appears, type troubleshooting into search bar, troubleshooting appears at top. Click it, window opens, lower right side "Fix problems with Windows Update", click. "

Details here:

https://www.tenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/84367-update-failure-kb4019472.html

...and the download continued and update succeeded.
