Narrowed my search for my new car down to 3 models one of which comes with a sun roof and for another it's an option. Used to love driving with the sun roof open in the uk even in the middle of winter only closing it for rain so anyone have personal experience of them here. Do you get cooked with sun shining through the glass or the opening, does it give a nice fresh air feeling or just an extra that you never used. Thanks.

There is a valid reason why they call them 'moonroofs' here. IMO it's an extra that will rarely be used. It's too hot, noisy & dusty to ride around with an open roof most of the time. I could count on one hand the number of times that I left the roof open (at night usually).
My advice is to not worry about if the car has or has no 'moonroof'

Back home I really enjoyed swanning around in my MGB convertible, but it would be totally useless here via the suns intensity. I reckon with a sun roof you will just cook and for sure any Thai bird will hate it. A/C reigns....

Most 'sun roofs' here have an interior blind that you can close to prevent glare. The glass itself is very dark ( almost black ) on the outside. I put a good quality 3M film on the inside of mine too as it helps reduce heat transfer. I find I open the blind most days as it lightens the interior of the car and makes it feel more airy.

I often use the tilt function on the highway ( A/C still keeps the car cool ) and open the roof completely sometimes in the evening if driving out from town.

In town if in heavy traffic you wouldn't want to open it because of the noise and traffic fumes.  In reality it is the extra light let into the cabin that is the only real bonus.

It's standard feature on many quality cars here. So not really much choice if you are set on a particular model. With the interior blind closed you'd never know it was there anyhow. Nice to open it on a cool evening and enjoy the fruity exhaust note.

Depends on the cost. If not much then OK have it. But to answer your own question, drive around with the two front windows open for an hour and see how you feel.

Where do you get these cool evenings from ... Have opened the moon roof twice on the Everest ... by 10am ... please shut it!. I have quite dark film on the inside of the moonroof, and the blind is always closed. And it's a pain removing the watermarks. I've tried several 'polishes' but it still marks ...

I might open it if I'm heading down to the beach around 6am for my run. Or sometimes on my way home at night. Cool evenings are usually between mid Nov and Feb.

To me it's no different to getting the roof down on a convertible in the middle of the UK winter. Cold but bright winter's day, jacket on, heater on and roof down. Great !

Here I have the a/c on and either tilt the roof for some airflow or sometimes open it fully at night. Certainly not when stopped in direct sunlight or in the stinking hot midday temps.

I just like the extra light in the cabin. But if out around midday I just close the sun blind and it's no different inside to a tin top.

I always dry the roof off well with a microfibre cloth when washed. The rest of the time it's under the car port so water marks don't seem to becan issue.

Is yours made of tinted glass or the really dark reflective black glass that looks like a black gloss wrap?
