Woman killed in Loei flash flood

By The Nation

A 61-year-old woman who went out to look for mushrooms in Loei’s Thai Li district was killed when washed away by runoff while crossing a creek, police said.

The body of Bua Pilatham was found stuck to trees on the bank of a creek downstream from a dyke in Moo 5 village in Tambon Khokyai at 7.30 am.

Her husband, Boonthan Pilatham, said his wife left home on Friday evening to collect wild mushrooms but did not return – so he sought help from villagers to help look for her.

Her motorcycle was found about two kilometres away near the creek before her body was found.

Officials believed she was hit by runoff while crossing the creek to collect mushrooms.
