We have a large garden which is now showing the benefits of three years of planting and TLC, it's time therefore to install garden lighting.

I already have three outside circuits, each on separate breakers, one drives a single ceiling fan located in the sala that is used only during the day time - I think I will tap into that circuit which is convenient.

I intend to connect an infrared switch so that the lights come on and shut off automatically, same as the house security lights.

I'm planning on running the power cable in pained yellow plastic pipe and fastening it to the wall that runs around the garden, I'll then use junction boxes to allow spurs to be made which connect to individual lights less than two metres  away. I plan on using something like 5 watt LED's and am likely to have around 15 of them.

Questions: what size/type cable to use, AND, anything missing from the above?

Many thanks in advance for any tips and pointers.

Make sure you have an RCD / RCBO on the circuit somewhere.

How long is the longest leg?

Assuming it's not going underground anywhere I would run 1mm2 (or even smaller) VKF (that's regular flex, not the speaker wire) in the conduit, it's reasonably robust and will go round corners easily.

Volt drop won't be an issue with your mains LEDs, subject to run length.
