As far as I know Viagra is not illegal in Thailand and thus being in possesion of Viagra isnt a crime. So I dont quite get it...?

It can only be used legally if prescribed by a doctor. I doubt he had such a prescription!

There are many other international brands of  'sex pills' on the market, are they all legal? Do they all have approval for sale?

 

Also, there are dozens of local design / manufacture sex pills. Are they all legal? Do they all have approval for sale?

Like Viagra, even if licensed for sale in Thailand, a prescription is required.

No. Not necessarily. This is a classic con. You buy stuff from people who have been compromised by the police. Its their "job" to go and find someone to sell to. Through whatever network. They have already been caught. This is their "buy out" to do undercover work for the police. Their get out of jail card.

 

The guy 'innocently' gets some gear for his birthday and the "fun" police are there waiting.

Correct - but a prescription is not hard to get at all. So why doubt that he had one?

I know a pharmacy that has Sidegra the Thai generic version of Viagra. No prescription needed. Four blue pills 100 MG for 300 baht.
