Ed Sullivan would roll over in his grave.

Only us old guys recall the "Elvis the Pelvis" scandal.

Back then --- Camera above the waist thank you !

Same-Same only 50 years later and a lot more provocative.

I sympathize with young lads of today.

Cruelty to dumb animals is what this is !!!

I only had my imagination back then - and it wasn't as vivid as the video this girl puts on.

Back in the late 1940's and early 50's I was stationed  with the US Army in Italy.  The commanding general's wife thought that a couple dancing the Samba was too suggestive so we were ordered to only do the dance at arm's length.  So, on the base, it was forbidden to dance it the proper way!

It is known throughout the world that young conscripts into the Armed Forces often lose their virginity by visiting the local brothel - If need be I can show him one such place in the THai town that I live in - not a farang to be seen either but a much used service by the local navy boys

I will bet 'a bundle' that there are plenty of 'Thai' men who really enjoy her performance........ and not just the ones up in Mae Hong Son.........

PM may just be saying that to appease the Thai Tourism Minister.... She recently 'coined' a new phrase about  "NO SEX PLEASE.... WE ARE THAI"...... How many holes have been shot into that theory since she came up with it?????????      All those Gov't. people in Mae Hong Son sure shot a bunch of holes into it with the underage 'sex-capades' recently..........

The Thai Govt. 'NEWS' here is so entertaining....... LOL.......

Ok, let's just put it this way ...    If one of the members here had posted something like this, he'd be gasping for breath in an ocean of ridicule.

Clearly you are more in-tune with pop culture than I am .... or would ever want to be.

You list these people as if they and their behaviour  should both be of real importance in your life, or anybody's come to that.

Just lapping it up as the norm rather than questioning the validity of it all.

Show biz characters are rarely the most intellectual from society and I, for one, have no wish to fall in-line with the way they conduct themselves without scrutiny or question.

All lols and smiley faces as well. Are you twelve years old?

Technically he's correct about this being a foreign import - the results of Frankfurt School Marxist thinking which sought to corrode and debase western society and culture in order to implement their socialist utopia.

I like a singer named Baitong Changamm from Laos. Now THAT'S not only talent, but class. If our young lady wanted to develop talent she could. But if she likes the attention she gets without having to work hard,

She's from Roi Et, mrs knows her Not surprised, a lot of great singers from there!

He should pay a visit to one of these music events up in Isaan and see what the dancers (and the audience do) all without the help of decadent evil farang.

Yeah, and Prajuth ought to come see the Pi Tha Khon festival in Dan Sai and see what happens there. (June 24th).

So this is the official opinion regarding rape victims,it's their own fault wow........that must also mean that Thai men are morally weak since they can't resist their sexual urges when seeing someone dance badly on stage?

Her dancing is rather standard to the point of being banal. I wish he'd criticized her for being boring. But...well..you know..we are not dealing with Mr. Hip here unless maybe its Mr. Hip Card your Siam Commerical bank ATM card. I do like her hips tho...

Prayuth Criticizes Teen Singer’s Sexy Dancing, Blames Farangs

By Asaree Thaitrakulpanich, Staff Reporter

BANGKOK — The owner of a record label representing teen luk thung singer Lumyai Hai Thongkam, said criticism of her dancing by the prime minister shows he is out of touch.

Prachakchai Navarat, owner of Hai Thongkum Records said the sexual dance moves criticized recently by Gen. Prayuth Chan-ocha as inappropriate and not Thai, were not new in any sense.

“I want to ask, is Lumyai really destroying society? This kind of thing has been happening way before she was famous, in lum sing, coyote, Korean and American dancing,” Prachakchai said. “Please don’t think of this as something inappropriate.”

I sorta remember Elvis doing this with the same results.  Hummm.....  Thailand is about 60 years behind the curve in the government's assessment of 'indecency'.
BTW, dancing like that started long before farangs were a cultural influence.

I'm no prude, but this time I feel that there is a valid point to be made here.

Her dancing is seductive and to the point of lewdness.

It is totally OTT and unnecessary.

There is a time and a place for everything and to ape sexual acts in front of youngsters is innappropriate in my opinion.

I happen to like watching it, but that's hardly the point.

The line needs be drawn somewhere and basic standards need maintaining in a properly functioning society. If not a mind-set infiltrates the heads of the vulnerable and could feasibly  lead to more dangerous behaviour.

To blame farangs is stupid though. This is a Thai problem because it was, likely, conceived by Thais and seems to appeal to Thais.

The next meeting of the Salvation army is at 7 pm friday. The William Boothe hotel, soi 6.Soap boxes and tambourines optional. Oh, and the dry cleaners called, and said your uniform will be ready on Thursday

Setting aside the dopey hand gestures for a moment, what this clown says speaks volumes about what actually goes on in his mind.

If any proof were required that people who are trained to be soldiers are not well suited for leading ordinary people, this guy provides it. Probably the only thing he is useful for.

"He said serious crimes including rape resulted from such seductive behaviour and the problem should be tackled at the root cause."

The root cause is NEVER the victim, be it boy or girl, be they people in their eighties or teenagers. (or be it people that get robbed because they have more possessions than others, or people that get run over by alcohol or drugs doused drivers)

The root cause is the pathological behavior of sickos that jump on anything that has legs, except tables and chairs, and do not respect other beings.

Education,  Discouragement (i.e. long jail terms and compulsory Psychiatric Treatment) and Clinical Psychological Therapy sounds more like a good way to address the cause.

EDIT:
P.S. did look at the video just now, would say that she does not know how to dance, hence not worth mentioning even.
Storm in a tea cup and a lot of free publicity.

I can also recall 'Elvis the pelvis' doing his gyrating stuff and that English raver; Cliff Richard. Michael Jackson always had his hand over his crotch too on stage.

I had a narrow waste and a broad mind back then. Now they have swopped over. I wouldn't even cross the road to see them perform nowadays.

Well I am glad some of us go back as far as Elvis and Cliff. Other than a few songs, Elvis was not my cup of tea and Cliff was just a tea cup.

The Young Ones sang the best version of any Cliff song. (You would have to hear it to believe it if you were over the pond from England)

Jackson, the" black mans great white hope" had a few good early hits. "Ben" was one, about a rat.

Madonna got the female gyrations nailed down as did Mick Jagger for me. The music was better than good for me.

The poor lasses in Thailand have a lot to copy from. I hope when the Thai PM visits the White House he will see a few shows

and learn from the expert dancers. Maybe Trump can show him a few grope moves as well.

Well....I guess there is no aspect of living our lives that the government shouldn't be intimately involved in. After all we are all ignorant beast that can't make an intelligent decision or control our animalistic instincts.

So utterly clueless and out of touch. The only place in the world female singers/dancers dance like that IS in Thailand - it isn't 'farang' dancing. And there's no farangs in the crowd at these gigs cos the music is, with a few exceptions, utterly dreadful.

I agree with most of what you say, but the dance routines are copied from the likes of Bouncy and the Micky Mouse girl Spears etc.

In the go-go bars here 99% of the girls still do the "military two step", with or without pants...

No lesson learned from the backlash he got with a similar comment following the slaughter of Hannah Witheridge.

I believe the prime minister was right about that.

I`ve seen young western women, mostly tourists walking about in the main city of Chiang Mai, as if they were on a beach. Bikini style outfits, some almost looking as if they are only wearing underwear, sluty and the message this puts out, is that they`re easy and fair game. This does create an influence that the Thai girls try to simulate.

Not complaining, good eye candy, but it means the PM is on track with his comments.

Hannah had her skull caved in and her face mutilated with a garden hoe. She was raped and left to die.

As far as I can tell she was wearing shorts and a tee shirt on the beach.

Was she sending a message that she was "fair game"? You, and the PM seem to think so. As a man with normal sexual desires I disagree, wholeheartedly.

If Hannah had been wearing long trousers and a kaftan do you think her murderers would have shown her some mercy?

How do we know what she was wearing when alone with the guy on the beach and out of sight of the CCTV cameras or what they doing that evening? I personally don`t have a clue and we`ll probably never know. But obviously nothing can justify the brutal rape and murders of an innocent young couple.

Besides that, there are western girls that go swimming or lie on the beaches virtually wearing nothing, some even topless, that in my opinion makes them vulnerable as appearing promiscuous and now this trend is catching on in Thailand. The PM is right; western influences are bad for this country, whereas anything goes, that eventually will destroy Thailand`s culture if not taken control of.
