BANGKOK — After the prime minister became preoccupied with a teen luk thung singer’s sexuality and apparently dispatched police to cover her up and count her hip thrusts, Lumyai Hai Thongkam has become an icon of the national cultural wars.

Details of her signature gold bikini and even her stage name were being dissected, debated, defended and criticized online and off this week.

Speaks volumes about the junta's troubles with dealing with practical matters.  There are some matters which do not deserves ones attention.

The General is a prude.

The general has a heart condition and can not take his blue pills to perform the necessary actions to alleviate the high pressure down south when seeing this act on youtube.

Why not shutdown the entire super model and entertainment industry, including Lakorns Miss Thailand shows, bikini industry, fashion industry..... they're full of attractive women.....

And finally ban the internet in Thailand.

Problem solved.

why in the world does a PM get anywhere near such an issue ? micro-managing or at least the attempt to do so is the answer; not a good sign

Because he is not a real Prime Minister?

The suicide rate among TV members would reach the sky.

Yes, we would all be tying our hands behind our backs and hoisting ourself from the rafters or just falling over balconies.

But who would then know and who would bother pointing?

But honestly what does it say about the head of the country getting involved in a minor skirmish?

The way to go is delegate.

I think it says more about the people that believe these silly fabrications....

This all started from a question asked by a journalist to the Thai PM, who responded by saying he wouldn't do anything because it was popular and it was up to other people( like the media etc) to speak to her if it bothered them.

Anyone who says Thailand doesn't have a free press should look no further than these relentless, mocking, nonsense articles about the Thai government coming from the thai media.

"Lumyai Hai Thongkam has become an icon of the national cultural wars."

It is a "front" in the generalised social/class war.

This is an "offensive" against the culture of the working/rural class.

And they know it.

It's all smoke screen. While the boys in green officially go over the moon on issues as harmless as this stuff the really big fish are being caught somewhere else.

Rather than losing it over a teenie (who coined Lamyai-Gate; my vote for Thainess Award 2017; to be misused by Kobkarn's Ministry of Touristic Rubbish) you better keep an eye on tanks, submarines, aircraft carriers and the likes. I have the strange feeling that the shopping list is still being extended; after all, Thailand has to be well prepared for all those alien invasions from all over the planet bringing in such evil things like tourists, farangs .... and scantily dressed teenagers .........

for one ballet doesnt use sex to try to sell their performance and have done it the same way for many years, the singers do use their bodies to sell themselves (usually because they have crap voices)and are appealing only  to all those that think with their little heads but they still should be able to do so and not be told they cant, if flashing their fanny(as above) at fans is the only way they can get an audience they are bloody hopeless anyway so why bother. If they had a decent voice they wouldnt need all the excess flashing/gyrating hips but it still should not be banned, after all if they cant sing they can still get customers
