I seriously doubt your allegation. At the time the US had very little knowledge of Bin Laden, plus his group of 'Arabs' were loathed by the warlords resisting the Russian occupation.

He was a friend of the Bush family, you should read a bit more:

Trump did not get the US into war in Syria.  That is all on Obama's narrow shoulders.  The US is focused on eradicating ISIS, but will protect it's and it's allies troops in battle.

GW Bush led the way to this whole mess in the Middle East, on purpose I might add.

And you uninformed, they armed Osama bin Laden to fight the Russians in Afghanistan, now they arming "moderate" Islamic rebels to fight the Syrian army.

Who do you think those moderate rebels are?

Yes and Ronald Reagan spoke very highly of Osama Bin Ladin and his followers when they ran the Russians out. He also spoke very highly and offered much support to Iraq during their war with Iran. Funny how so few can remember these things, selective memories you think?

And your point is what?   Many husbands speak highly of their wife, until she is an ex and then it's hard to believe it's the same purpose.

The alliances have always shifted in the ME and always will.   Today's friends are tomorrow's enemies.   The remark about Iraq and Iran is interesting in that we still seem to be siding with Iraq over Iran.

And my point was we side with terrorists and dictators who gas their own people when it fits our agendas.

Why can't the US just stay out of where it's not needed or wanted?  Is it that Syria is allied with Iran and the US just wants to keep the war and death to continue so it can destabilize Syria?  Can't be, must be that they just can't abide there are no free elections in Syria.

The oily region of Raqqa has first to be conquered by a bunch of local zealots. The Syrian Democratic Forces have been 'created' not so long ago.

The Kurds will take over very soon through mediation of the US and by this the region will become US controlled...

Stating that they armed bin Laden to fight Russians is possibly one bridge too far.  The US armed many "warlords" in Afghanistan to fight the Russians.  It was possibly the war in Afghanistan that lead to the popular overthrow of USSR.  This is the war that made them bankrupt, and the families of the dead raised murder in Russia.  Of course that is all ancient history. Bin Laden may have received some munitions from the US.  But he was was a wannabe back then, he was backed mostly by his Saudi relations.

I remember everyone saying the Jews were moderate when Britain and France annexed land

from Palestine to create a new state of Israel. You never know how the radical fighters turn out to be.
