93,000 Baht Missing From Bank Account................

Featured Replies

My friend's experience with "B Bank":

My friend, C, received a crossed cheque in her name. Besides being a Crossed Cheque, the "or bearer" had also been cancelled. By right the money can only be deposited to C's account.

C uses the "Quick Deposit" machine to deposit her cheque into her account. She wrote correctly her name and account number at the back of the cheque, before placing it into the Quick Deposit envelope supplied by the bank. While filling up the information on the front of the Quick Deposit envelope, C accidentally wrote the the wrong name/account number. She had written the name/account number of someone else. (for whatever reason)

Anyway, the point is that the Bank did not call her to re-confirm the details. They simply deposited the money into the name/account stated on the front of the envelope, although the name on the cheque did not telly with the name written on the envelope. The bank also did not check the name/account number written on the back of the cheque.

So, we came to a conclusion that, if we have a crossed cheque written in our name, we have to be careful and handle it like a Cash Cheque because anyone who steals our cheque can conveniently deposit it into his/her account even though the name on the cheuqe isn't in his name, and the cheque had been crossed, and "bearer" crossed too.
