June 23, 20178 yr I'm told these are available in Pattaya. I've just bought a condo with only AIS fibre broadband internet available at 100Mbps. I don't fancy their Playbox package as not much non-Thai included. Are there other wireless internet providers as before Hutch or CAT? I'm looking into all my options beforehand. Any advise appreciated, thanks Sent from my iPhone using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app
June 25, 20178 yr Yeah, we got other wireless internet providers: True, DTAC, AIS. I wasn't aware that CAT is a wireless internet provider but I'll take your word for it. Not sure why you consider wireless if you've got 100Mbps broadband; sounds like a prescription for misery. Anyway, Lazada has lots of Android boxes: http://www.lazada.co.th/catalog/?itemperpage=120&q=android+media+box We have a number of experts on the topic of streaming media who'll no doubt be along shortly.
June 25, 20178 yr AIS Fibre 100/10 should be more than adequate for your streaming needs. You do not require any other network provider. The Playbox is free so take it. You can add your own Android box, like a Minix - there are a lot of local re-sellers to your home network. Whether you can reliably stream the exact content you desire depends on what that content is, exactly. Many modern smart TVs can stream services without the need for an external box.
June 25, 20178 yr Author Thank you. Yeah apologies typing error on the wireless. I'm restricted to using the AIS Fibre at my condo. Their AIS playbox seems mostly thai channels, some of which I get through cable. Would be good to get some news, sport, movies and documentaries etc in English. Any thoughts are appreciated

June 25, 20178 yr Plenty of streaming options with a minix. get one from Lazada. http://www.lazada.co.th/minix-neo-u1-android-511-tv-box-streaming-media-player-airmouse-intl-10275805.html?ff=1 Then subscribe to the IPTV service of your choice and get everything you will ever need.

There might not be much non-Thai material on it but Google Play is on it and you can sideload apps from APK's. That means that you can install anything that runs on its version of Android and get all the English language content that you want. . Main thing that's a bit inconvenient is that the Playbox runs on Android 4. 4 so you can't install Kodi 17, you have to sideload Kodi 16.1 instead.
June 28, 20178 yr Author Thanks for all that useful info. Appreciated. It would appear I may as well get the free playbox from AIS anyway ( if they ever pitch to install haha ). Meanwhile buy a minix which sounds of better use. Thanks everyone for coming back with some advise [emoji1303]Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect
June 28, 20178 yr You can actually get a slightly cheaper package without the playbox. Mine is back in its box in a cupboard. I'll be looking to change my package when my contract is up.Sent from my SM-P555 using Tapatalk
June 28, 20178 yr Author Yes my thoughts are the same and go for my own tv box. I'm advised by AIS their fibre cable to my condo only good enough for 50Mbps. Will that be sufficient? Apologies I'm new to all this tv box stuffSent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect

July 3, 20178 yr My Playbox is also packed away again. I have a Minix Neo U9 that I like and Shield. One thing I did do from the Playbox is install the HooQ app on both my other devices and linked them via the HooQ app on the phone. Not used it much but it does have a few descent series and Thai subs. Posted using Tapatalk

July 5, 20178 yr be aware that minix, and most android boxes are unable to jump through the drm hoops necessary to authorize playing netflix in HD. its not nice to have an all singing all dancing box only to discover that the best it will play netflix is 480 and below. sadly given recent activity where kodi addons are concerned a back up plan is necessary these days.

But for 1080 + you do need a Netflix approved device. That's the main reason, coupled with the fact that Amazon Prime is also restricted to 480 on generic Android devices, that I switched to an Nvidia Shield in the living room. I find I also prefer the fact that the Iflix and Hooq apps open up in optimised for Android TV format on the Shield vs the mobile version on the U9. Still think the U9 is a great device though, even more so if you're not subscribed to those services, or not to stressed about the lower resolution. For that reason the U9 suits me fine as the bedroom box which for the use it gets doesn't warrant the extra cost of the Shield. Those Minix air-mice also work flawlessly with them, unlike the somewhat patchy Shield performance. Posted using Tapatalk

And yes, i love the minix air mouse with keyboard, also works well as skype handset.
